Aloha,
The Wife & I are in Texas visiting her family for our 25th Anniversary.
With the exception of a unhappy Lady at the American airline counter in Dallas where we changed planes to Austin, Everyone we met has been very nice & friendly.
Everywhere we've eaten, the food was great & very reasonably priced.
Besides our Anniversary, we are looking to buy a 50+ acre property to purchase so we can have a nice shooting range.
So far, the town we like Best is Llano.
The Wife took a liking to Llano almost as soon as we drove in.
We also found a New Hospital-Clinic relatively nearby.
I am having culture shock because Texas is soo BIG.
The Wife is driving as I fall asleep for driving. She has Not stopped at any gun store or range.
Said finding property is priority.
We have a Texas realtor who we have met with & understands what we want.
We have a potential buyer for our home in Hawaii.
We want to be in Texas ASAP after it sells.

Best I can say..Good choice... and I hope you find the place you like. Texas is a very large place. I bought a half section in Texas many years ago... many years. My wife however is very happy here in Wyoming... as am I. Going to give the place down there to my granddaughter, I think. It's west of San Antonio. Llano if I remember is a bit north of SA. Good luck in your search and your move.

Outstanding! Llano is a great small Texas town! I am on a hunt lease on 2800 acres 9 miles outside of Llano and I love going up there. Coopers BBQ whenever you want it! You are in the Hill Country and close enough to visit larger cities for what you need, Marble Falls, Fredericksburg, Austin. One thing to remember is that this year that area has seen a lot of rain and it has stayed greener then in some years. In the summer it will get 100-110 and can be very dry. It can get chilly in the Winter, but Winters are short. Texas is a big State, you don't really realize how big until you get here and start driving around in it! There are several different climates here to chose from. Welcome to your new home!

You've been thinking on this for some time now and I hope Texas is all you're looking for and then some.

I spent a little time at Ft. Hood too and it's beautiful there. I got totally lost exploring the woods. I found some old cars and other neat stuff in the middle of nowhere.

I applaud you for your decision and your choice, you are making a good move for your rights and the future of your children if you are fortunate enough to have any. Best to you and your family!

There's 2 gun shows in the area next week end if you have some spare time.

One is in Dripping Springs and the other is in Round Rock.

I made the move to Texas 3 years ago from Asia where I resided for 20 years.Three months ago I sold my home in Asia and invested the money in Texas property.

The biggest mistake I made moving was shipping things I should have sold or thrown away.Shipping was $200 a square yard and took 2 months to arrive.

Hi Yogi Bear:

Welcome to Texas! Llano is a nice little town. You'll be surprised how "big" and busy the town gets during deer hunting season. Lots of small towns like Llano make most of their money during deer hunting season (regular, i.e. gun season, started Nov. 2nd, and will end on Jan. 15th). The area is famous for their white tail deer. I hunt on a lease a few miles down the road from Llano. Best of luck to you and your wife - I hope things work out well for you.

Regards,

Dave

Welcome to Texas, and I hope everything goes well with your move. I've lived in a number of states, and while they've always been interesting in their own right, Texas is home to me. We may end up somewhere else, but no matter where we are, Texas will always be home.

Weather in Texas.:) Congratulations on your pending move! There is a rough triangle from Burnet out to Mason then up to Brownwood then back down to Burnet that is great. No offense to the rest of our great state but if I was to relocate it would be a little further west. Regards, hardcase60

Glad you like our home.

Most folks here are decent enough. A few should be be ignored and there are a very few that should be shot on sight.

You will find that people from different regions of the state are different. I divide the state into East Texas, West Texas, South Texas and the Coast. Each is kinda unique, but most all are great people and most importantly, Texans!

I tried living in another state for awhile, but I ended up feeling like a pork chop at a Bar Mitzvah after a few years and came home.

Congratulations on your silver anniversary. Best wishes to you finding the right property and making the move.

"East Texas, West Texas, South Texas and the Coast."

What happened to North Texas (which has probably the most temperate weather) and the Panhandle? Have lived in Texas for the last 40+ years, over 25 in the San Antonio area. The place we liked the best was a small town just west of Fort Worth. Of course, it has now been devoured by Fort Worth. I wouldn't want to live there now.

Go ahead and sell your surf board now and you can let your shark bite and volcano insurance lapse.

I always thought hunting was better in Missouri, hundreds of thousands of acres of National Forest like CO, Wy and other western states. Seems to be pay to hunt unless you have a good friend or relative land owner in Texas.

When South Fork and jr was the TV show the company sent 2 of us to Rockwell for a microwave engineering school. The other guy bought one of the 1 square inch deeds to South fork. I bought a new Stetson. I told him he'll be shocked when he retires and tries to put a mobile home on it.....
