Texmexs thread got me wanting to ask this important question.

I also like Dreyer's. I have a local independent ice cream store down the street called Haans, they have only 2 locations. Very good but pricey. Third, Baskin Robbins is really hard to beat. When I buy at the store, I usually will buy Dreyer's.

Hagen Daaz doesn't really do anything for me. I have had Ben and Jerry's a few of their flavors, but to me not worth the excessive mark up. I am really just a vanilla bean type of person (or mint chocolate chip).

I'll go with Blue Bunny, home grown Iowa company. Vanilla Bean, Mint Chip, Pecan Praline and they have a pretty good copy of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia.

When I'm visiting my daughter & family in Rochester a trip to the local
ice cream heaven is usually required, Flapdoodles, for Salty Carmel.

Some of Haagen Dazs's flavors are great. With a more limited selection, Trader Joe's is as good or better. I mostly like their chocolate and their coffee. They have fancier names on the container, but that's OK - they earned them.

I just must be a simple minded person. I buy store brand ice cream (Kroger) and it is just as good and makes your head hurt just as bad as the name brands, at about half the price. Saves a little cash for more AMMO.

Auggh, I WISH they would reopen Kroger here as well.

To be honest I have to go off your list and choose Dryers. It very frequently is priced down to $3 or the current Fred Meyer price $2.50. I almost never pay the $5 to $6 regular price. Umpqua (? spelling) Java Thunder is so good that I will pay full price for it. Similarly most brands probably have a flavor that will hit your weak spot but you'd get very fat finding all of them.

Ben & Jerry's has a a couple of excellent flavors but I do not buy them for two reasons: extremely high fat content and Ben & Jerry's infamous promotion of gun control laws.

The problem is--is I need a national brand-yours isnt sold here.

I like Haagen Dazs the best if I don't feel like making it myself. Fresh home made is always the bomb.

Good Lord, I havent had homemade since the late 70s-and I remember it was Peppermint.

Baskin Robins, mint chocolate chip is the only ice cream worth having. Everything else is just a pretender. Sales figures back me up. BR mint chocolate chip out sells every other flavor 3:1.

I dont know if we still have their store here? ill have to look. That was a favorite after-movie-spot with my girlfriends.

Ben & Jerry support causes that are in direct opposition to everything I believe... I wouldn't eat their stuff if it was free.............

Blue Bunny is pretty good too.

I heard something to that effect-guess ill pass theirs up for any of the above. I also like Great Value frozen strawberry non-fat yogurt--but its not in this equasion above.

None of the above. At least where an H-E-B store is located, their "Creamy Creations" house brand is better than any.

Hadnt thought of or tried tat yet--but have been thinking on it.

Ice cream is my favorite food in the whole wide world so I know a lot about it. :D Ben and Jerry's is too dense and high in fat. I find Bryers light and not creamy enough.

Dryers is my go to and you can find it often on sale in the regular grocery stores for $3. My husband loves his chocolate and complains if it does not have any in it so I mostly go for those. We like the Dryers chocolate ice cream with chocolate Crunch candy bar in it. The pieces are crispy so it is nice to have that different texture. Their chocolate with mini peanut butter cups is also really good. Their flavors hve the right amount of sweet.

I like Tillamook ice cream consistency best because it is really creamy, but some flavors are a bit too sweet for my taste. If you like Malt they have a chocolate malted Moo shake flavor. It is good but really sweet. Their chocolate peanut butter is really good too. My hands down favorite flavor is their wild blueberry. That is YUM in all caps but hard to find.

My sister likes those mentioned above-after ive seen several empty containers around her house filled with nails etc.

In the South, Blue Bell reigns... For me, natural vanilla bean.

I wish I could cotton up to that brand but, every-time ive had it--it leaves a bad after-taste in my mouth. If not for that? id be enjoying their ice cream.

Publix store brand is the best I've found.

And they put out an egg nog version around the end of the year.

I wish their stuff were sold here. Id go through a few gallons of that by the new year.

All 3 are minor league compared to Graeters (a Cincinnati favorite). Depending on the area, Krogers may have it.

Unfortunately--my area has neither. But next time im in San Antonio or Houston? ill try some.:)

I hope the rumor is true but, I heard we are getting a Trader Joes-I love that place.
