TGI Fridays files for Chapter 11

TGIFriday's is where my wife and I met...sad to see such things but it's likely due to a combination of factors...management errors...supply chain problems...difficult to find employees who actually want to work...government interference through excessive regulations...the public is simply changing...lots of potential reasons.

Where we live now there none of these restaurants...no presence by them at all.

That there is still a Pizza Hut in Dunmore PA is beyond me.

Dunmore borders Scranton. It has a sizeable Italian heritage population and lots of good mom and pop pizza joints from take out only to sit down restaurants.

Pizza Hut would be my absolute last choice for a tray of pizza.

With LaRosa's in Cincinnati, its pretty mind boggling that there are any Pizza Huts there.

TGI Fridays to me was a noisy place for yuppies to eat factory fresh fried food and drink beer. Similar to Bennigans, but I didn’t mind Bennigans.

Restaurants have gotten so expensive, it’s hard to justify eating out. I say that, but a cart full of groceries makes eating out seem competitive, since at least you don’t have to wash the dishes afterward.

The one near Franklin Tn closed several years ago.I do not miss it!AboutA year before they closed they ordered a group of police officers who had come for lunch to leave the restaurant. They said that the officers carrying guns scared the staff.I will never step into one again.

I believed they were already out of business. I remember that their horseradish ranch dip and fried green beans were delicious.

I never go to feed bags where the waiters (no I don't care what his/her name is) are arrogant, intitled, and po'd until they get a tip larger than their education loan for a volleyball degree.

My sci-fi club used go to to the one in a nearby mall, then a movie. Now we go to a local diner. The food is just as good, more variety, service just as good. ambience just as pleasant.

Got a cite for that?

Franklin is pretty conservative of a town, as is Williamson Co.

One recently closed by me and I went there a few times just because it was convenient, and our waitress was missing several teeth and looked like she needed a bath. The food was average at best and they tore it down and put in a Cheddar's which has a nice atmosphere and excellent tasting food.
Same happened here. Nearby TGIF closed three or four years back, Cheddar’s built a new restaurant on the same site. Cheddar’s locations here seem to do well. I know there are at least four locations, maybe others I am unaware of.

Barring armed police from being served at a restaurant also happened here in San Antonio several years ago. I just do not remember any details, but it made the news and didn’t last long.

Three parole officers were asked to leave a T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant in Franklin Tuesday because they were armed.

A manager told the parole officers they were not allowed to have guns in the restaurant.

The incident caused a social media backlash and got all the way to the Tennessee Fraternal Order of Police.

“The officers are out there to protect the public,” said Johnny Crumby, president of the Tennessee Fraternal Order of Police. “If somebody comes in while someone is on their lunch break, they are not off-duty. They are still an officer. They will respond to whatever occurs there.”

The Tennessee Department of Correction confirmed the officers were in uniform and carrying state-issued law enforcement IDs at the time.

The restaurant chain bans customers from carrying guns, but law enforcement officers are allowed to eat in the restaurants while armed.

Friday’s corporate office interviewed the manager who asked the officers to leave and came to the following conclusion:

The incident at our Franklin, Tennessee restaurant was caused by a manager’s misunderstanding of our company gun policy, and that manager has since been coached on the policy and now knows that police officers are always allowed to carry guns in our restaurants, whether they are in uniform or not. We have reached out to the officers to personally apologize for the unfortunate misunderstanding, and we’ve invited them back in to join us for a free lunch.

Channel 4 reached out for an interview with the officers, but the department of correction would not allow it.

TDOC officials pointed out the officers all quietly and respectfully left the restaurant when they were asked to leave.

An article I read in the Dallas Morning News stated that the bankruptcy only applies to the corporate-owned TGI Fridays locations. There are 163 franchise-owned locations that are not affected. So it's possible for Forum Fridays' fans to feast on franchised Fridays' fried foods.

Last time I ate at Pizza Hut many years ago it tasted like the sauce and toppings were on a cardboard crust.
