I was directed to Magnum Nut's FAQ thread on polishing stainless here. He explained about the Gray & White Scotch Brite Pads and the correct way to brush with the "grain" of the metal. Well let me tell you the scratches that were by the hammer on my new 617 6" 10 round, where the sideplate seam meets the frame by the hammer on top are completely gone without a trace. When I was done it looked as good as factory brushing if not better. I started lightly as he suggested and the finished product is GREAT!! I just got the gun brand new and almost was going to send it back to S&W to have them fix it up, as it came that way from the factory, and I thought I should have had a much better finished product for the amount of money I paid for it. Thanks to the help found here and the great advice from Magnum Nut's FAQ, I saved the hassle of calling S&W, and getting a label, and shipping and return, and wondering if they would fix it right. And the worst part of being without the gun I just bought. Just wanted to say THANKS to all you guys and sure appreciate all the help and things I have learned!
