I haven't fired one round since May. I figured since I was off for the week, get some "retirees" to roll out and shoot. One by one they explained how they were preparing for turkey day. I guess it takes half a week when you have all the time in the world. I was packed so I wasn't bagging it. I really like Triple N range, out in the boonies far from protesters. Quite a few shooters; an "instructor" I overheard during cold range schooling an older couple how "AK's are everywhere and 'they' can use our ammo but we can't use theirs. No I didn't clear it up. Another guy brought his daughter, maybe 14 and spent most of the time "raking brass" in between mag dumps, which the RSO frowned on.
Started off with a new .22 Ruger I have had for almost 30 years. I got it from Davidsons' when they sent me a flyer and I could fill out a "sushi menu" of guns to get a low cost item, the Ruger. I took it apart and lubed it good about a month ago. neglected the bore except to check for obstructions. After several hundred rounds I got a live cartridge 3/4 way into the chamber and stuck fast. No tools but the RSO had a cleaning rod in his truck which allowed me to knock it out. Doesn't help I'm shooting 15yr+ old Wally boxes, black bullets and smoky as heck. I switched to the CZ and changed out the 9mm for the Kadet. CZ runs great in both calibers even if I had to use a 6 o'clock hold as opposed to the 6906. The 6906 was flawless as usual with all kinda ammo, me trying to burn up carry and "old" stuff.
It was hot even under the covered firing line and I shot 11;30 to after 2. Took longer to clean everything spending extra time trying to get the Ruger to let cartridges drop to the rim. Still tight. I miss the KMK 512 I gave my boy but this one will break in.
Which brings me to gratitude to live in a place with the freedom to blast away for half a day, something 7/8 of the world either can't do or can't afford. Joe

Looks like you had a fun day. I drug around a leaf blower all day. I like your day better.
Do it again next week!

Doctor appointment, (wife), replaced battery in mower, mowed the lawn and cut down the rose bushes. No shooting for me. :-(

Have a blessed day,

Leon

No shooting for me yesterday but I had a good day. My oldest grandson was here and we worked on a dinning table we are building for his sister. Any time I can spend the day with one of my grand kids is a good day.

Well I spent my afternoon, which was excellent cool Fall weather, plinking with my 1885 High Wall. Very relaxing day in my woods!

I need to get shooting tomorrow.(Friday) I've been in England for too long and need a "fix". I have several"new to me" guns I picked up this week when I got back..that I need to "test" to make sure they are adequate. 3914NL, SW 457, 25-2, Army 45 1917 and a Victory .38 M&P. I cannot wait to get out there. It sounds like you had a great day Joe.

We shot today. After a big lunch , about 8 of us headed to the farm. My father in-law and his wife shot his new shield 9mm. She had never shot until today and did well on the steel plates, especially with the laser sight.
Another new shooter was my wife's little sister. She shot my CZ75 and red dot equipped 10/22. We broke out a .243 for the tannerite filled pumpkin.
It was a great afternoon.
David.

It sounds like you had a great day Joe.

Up till I got that live round stuck in the Ruger. I bopped the slide forward but it didn't budge. After I knocked it out I realized how close I came to an "out of battery discharge" which can be dangerous and totally due to my stupidity. Joe

Sounds like a good day!

I went shooting Tuesday afternoon. We had a stretch of nice weather and I was finally able to get some time to myself.

My standard for years for a handgun was 25 yards, from a rest. Well, I figured out that my groups offhand at 10 practically duplicate what I can do from a rest at 25, so for about the last dozen years my testing for accuracy has been done at ten yards, offhand. I'll shoot a string of groups, take an average, and call it good.

I tested out a low-powered plinking load. It consisted of 800x and a 200 gr. HCFP at about 800 fps.

This isn't the first load I've tested 800x with. The first was a 200 gr. DEWC, shot from a 10" Contender, and my groups were similar to those pictured. 800x is becoming my "go to" powder for .44 Magnum reduced/target loads.

I also have a 265 gr. XTP/H110 load that groups as good as this one, but it's not as much fun to shoot!

So I didn't get to go shooting on Thanksgiving, but this was close enough.

day before thanksgiving...

yes...indeed enjoy and be thankful for your life in this great country where we like to spend a good day outdoors or shooting. Good to hear you had a good time.

I had a packed shooting day before the holiday: I did my NRA instructor qualification: 2 x 10 rounds into a 9'' circle (max 6'' group) at 15 yards.

Started with my trusty 29-5 and some loverly 0.433 diameter Dardas (why did he have to retire...??) cast 200 gr over 5.1 bullseye yielding a 4'' 10 round group, then switched to the fabulous new 210, shot 40 year old Winchester hollow bases over 4.6 gr w213...2'' group with 2 flyers still within 6'' and passed.

I wanted to ace this, made all the ammo one by one on the rock chucker with the little dandy and not the Dillon. So I did and happy with it.

Quick dinner and IDPA practice session with my 1977 model 10-8.

Came home and ready for the holiday....

On thanksgiving morning, I ran out to our cons club to finish sighting in a new barrel/scope combo on my old Mossberg 835. I put a factory rifled barrel on it and man...the groups I can now manage is great. 2 to 2.5 inch 5 shot groups at 100 meters is wonderful. I should have joined the rifled barrel brigade years ago, but I guess I was just to hard headed and cheap. I'm using the Federal 12 guage 3 inch 300 gr Trophy Copper Sabot slug round. Now I will be able to reach out to 125-150 yards with confidence.
