That Vander Sloot guy

Peru has no death penalty or life without parole. Expected sentence ≤ 35 years, from what I understand.
If we had a real Attorney General, our DoJ and their MoJ would get together and agree that after van der Sloth gets convicted and sentenced to 35 years in Peru, he's temporarily returned to the United States and tried for the extortion against Beth Holloway. Upon conviction and sentencing (10-20 years?), he returns to Peru to do his 35 years. If he survives 35 years in a Peruvian prison, the then 57 year old van der Sloth gets a visit from a couple of US Marshals, who ask him if he's ever been to Florence, Colorado, where upon he lives in SuperMax until he's 77 or dies, whichever comes first.

But that's if we actually had an Attorney General and a Department of Justice... which we don't.

......"Van der Sloot's confession came on his third full day in Peruvian police custody, on the eve of a planned trip to the hotel in which he was to participate in a reconstruction of the events leading to Flores' slaying, Gamarra said."
3 days!!!! tough little ******** wasn't he? Saw the picture-they didn't leave any marks ;)

Myself, I don't see the little worm confessing without a little persuasion.
Persuasion which was lacking in Aruba, but was quite alive in Peru I
think. You almost know they gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. :)
Dunno what kind of offer it was, but it must have been a scary one.. :/
Peru ain't no Aruba, and daddy Sloot wasn't there to pull strings this time.
And just when he was trying to turn his life around... :)

It wouldn't surprise me if the Peruvian National Police might have found evidence sufficient to make him for the Holloway murder as well. No death penalty in Aruba, either, so maybe it was a choice of a better plea bargain.

No means No! cept in the big house.
Some here seem to think his biggest punishment is gonna be jailhouse sex. You ever think that he might get to likeing it and being a preditor there too? He,s the type!
Feral-I'm gonna go out on a limb here and posit that unless you're batting for the other team-NO ONE is going to "get to liking it".

I think right now they are holding "Aruba" out there like a carrot. "Tell us what you know about Natalie, and we'll see if you can do your time in Aruba."

"No, you send me to Aruba, and I'll tell you everything.".

"Not going to happen. But if you tell us, and it turns out to be the truth, we'll arrange that you do your time in Aruba. Promise. I mean, what have you got to lose by trusting us?"

Of course, this would be a truly "empty promise".

Thoses tapes weren't held to be admissable evidence of wrong doing, and there is a reason for that.
I don't know about other tapes but I do know the FBI was involved in the taping of the extortion of Holloway's mother. It was done dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's so that it could be used as evidence in the case the FBI was building against van der Sloot. No media bias or wrongful reporting involved in that one.

My hope is that the Holloway family can finally get the closure that is so richly deserved. Van der Sloot, I don't really care except to note in passing that there is a hierarchy of crimes amoung criminals in prison. He will be at the low end of that. Things for those there often do not go well in prison.

It's almost as if you were there.......I think that's exactly the nature of the present dialog.

Well, live in the 3rd World long enough and...well, to quote Mr. Spock, "Constant exposure leads to varying degrees of contamination."

One can almost figure out where they're coming from, and what chess piece they might move next.

As much as Van der Sloot deservers to die, a long stay in the nightmarish hell of a Peruvian prison is probalby a more fitting punishment. He lived a life of privilege and used it to take anything he wanted, including the lives of two young girls. The worst way to punish the rich is to take it all away. It is my understanding that in some Peruvian prisons, you don't get fed unless someone from the outside brings food to you.

My first instinct was to use the rifle stock across the face, but I have mellowed with age and hope that the justice system will punish him accordingly. If he is not isolated in prison someone will kill him before too long.
