The 5th Edition arrived today!

Amazon would not drive down our road to deliver mine yesterday. They sent an email that I could pick it up in a parking lot, but my internet died and I couldn't respond. By the time I got there they were gone! I have not heard from them today. In limbo!

Got mine Tuesday. Opened the package and put it on the shelf next to my 4th edition. Hope to get time this weekend to take a look at it.

Got mine today! New to collecting and so much to learn. The value estimates are very helpful.

At $70 for the 5th, I’ll keep referring to my old FREE Second edition.
The history of all my Smiths’ is just the same in both!

The basics are the same but a number of errors in the older editions have been addressed and there is lots of additional information; such as the price change data across the editions. Well worth the $59.32 from Amazon in my opinion.

Got mine as well. The engraved 53, mentioned in another thread is spectacular. One thing on the 5th edition, regarding the Model 53 that was omitted, was my 53 that came from the factory with a butt swivel, likely the only one so equipped, at the additional cost of $1.20. It also has red ramp ($4.80) and white outline ($1.50). I guess they couldn't include every special order feature.

Got mine a couple days ago from Amazon, I was a little surprised to receive it without anything to keep it from rattling around in the box, none the worse for wear...I guess when your shipping is free you take what you can get. Nice book, I haven't handled a new hardback book in a long time, was fun to open it and break it in the way I was shown back in school. Bet you a dollar to a dirty old dog mine they don't teach that anymore.

I got mine day before yesterday, still looking at all the changes, plus the new stuff. The print is slightly smaller, like from 12-point to 14-point. While a lot of the old errors have been corrected, I've found one new one that contradicts the 4th Ed. A minor one in the grand scheme, but it's about one of the guns I own. I'm also a bit disappointed this was printed in China. All in all, it's better because it has more information.

Kinman, I also received my 5th edition from Amazon earlier in the week. Yes the book was just thrown into a box without the benfit of packing material. But you hav to understand Amazon's fulfillment centers and shipping warehouses are a production machine geared to maximize human production with production quotas based on performance.
Amazon is run like a ruthless machine, sorry to vear off course but this may explain some things to those who are unaware of the Amazon business model. This is why management has resisted and fought very hard to prevent organizing and labor unions entry into their work force.
Suffice it to say I will leave things at this point, if anyone wishes to know more please feel free to pm me.

I don't know about the "ruthless machine" or that that is the reason Amazon has resisted unions. I do know that I ordered a set of Apple AirPods Wednesday about 3:00 in the afternoon and they were delivered to my front door at 8:00 that evening. . . . .for free. Whatever they're doing, they're doing it right and I hope they keep it up.

As an irrelevant side note, we had a couple inches of snow here yesterday and while UPS had no problem delivering a package this afternoon this is the second day the post office couldn't manage to deliver the mail.

For those that are interested in an electronic version, I got mine for $29.99 from VitalSource. I'll probably get a physical copy later on but for now it's nice to have a version I can search. It was nice to see that some information I provided got into this edition.

Mine arrived a couple of days ago. Spent some time skimming through it - very enjoyable! Thanks Jim and Rick!

Got mine earlier this week. Love everything about it, save for the cheaper quality paper used for the pages. I'd gladly have paid more to have the same quality paper as my 4th edition. Nevertheless, a great piece of work by Supica and Nahas. My thanks to both of these men for doing what they do.

I do understand what you are saying, they just built two new centers here, one monster out near the airport for receipt and distribution of stuff by plane and I-90 freeway, the other out in the valley for receipt of everything by rail. They employ hundreds if not a couple thousand people and run constantly, from what I can understand most people that get a job there either move up into low level management jobs where they manage those working frenetically to get the job done or they move on, very high paced with few benefits. As is common with that type of job it is inhabited by younger people working their way through school, I haven't met anyone working there that loves it.

I received my copy from Amazon back on January 7...and even got an $8 refund because I had purchased it at the pre-release price in October. Amazon packed my copy properly and it arrived in great condition. Yes, the formatting and fonts are different, as are the highlighted current price estimates and the Appendices, but the amount of information is overwhelming! I think that most of us are just used to using the 3rd and 4th Editions, and it will take us a little time to get comfortable with the 5th Edition. Just like the Bible, there are different editions...the 5th Edition is the latest "King James" (Supica) version of our beloved "S&W bible". Study it and enjoy it!
