Desertrat44,
Doubt you will get any where close to 1,250 fps with 300gr in 2.75" barrel.
Chronoed these from my 2.75” M69 the other day. Three rounds at 5 Long paces from muzzle and 68 deg F.
260 WFNGC w/23.0gr H110 avg 1,125 fps
240 Zero JSP with 23.5gr H110 avg 1,126 fps
240gr Fed Factory avg 1,125 fps
265gr CSWCGC (Lyman Thompson) with 17.5gr A2400 (Deep Seat) 1,119 fps avg
325gr WLNGC (BTB) with 22.0gr H110 avg 1,104 fps
(Note, the 325gr Load goes 1,182 fps from my 4 1/4" M69)
Because some of the numbers were so close, I checked and rechecked -- it is what it is. Increased round count would probably change the results a bit
Don't know how well the M69 would hold up to limited use of 300gr+ ammo. What I do know is that the 2.75" M69 (equipped with Hogue 500 X Frame grips) is the softest recoiling .44 Magnum I've ever shot. For me, not much difference in recoil in any of the above loads (including the 325gr). My impression is that recoil of the above 325gr load in the 2.75" M69 was less than that of 240gr Factory .44 magums in longer barreled guns and I'm not a recoil junkie.
Heavy recoil of 325 gr ammo is what has been attributed with causing internal problems in S&W revolvers.
Still amazed at how well this little gun handles recoil with the Hogue 500 X Frame grips.
