The 8 3/8" Appreciation Thread!

WOW!!! I don't think I've ever seen a thread where every single gun displayed was at the top of my "drool" list and at least worthy of a "Like" button.

I don't need to name everybody because you all know who you are.....:D:D What a great crossover display of S&W's from all era's and frame sizes.... :)

I just picked up this 27-2 yesterday (for a song and a dance, too!), my first and (so far) only revolver with a long tube, so now I can join in on this thread:

My two favorites:
14-1 minty
14-1 formerly used in competition, not by me

You know, I have a bunch of 6 inch Smiths, but I am inspired. Those 27-2's and Model 14's with the long tubes have me looking now! Like someone said, the secret is out, prices will rise now!

Beautiful Hog Legs guys! Make for one accurate revolver and tames them magnums down. My best friend offered me his 8 3/8 nickeled no dash 57 with the presentation case, tools, paperwork and ANIB for $500.00 some 3 or so years ago. Turned him down as I was on a 3" kick, now I'm kicking myself for not buying it.

29-2 from 1977

Given to me for a bit of work cataloging a gun collection.
What a world!!

Beautiful guns everyone so far! I am really impressed! Now I have to get a new keyboard since I soaked this one with drool.

BTW,
Man!

Some heavy hitters posting in this thread. Nice guns boys.

Let me sneak a few in...

I never heard of a model 18 with an 8 3/8" barrel! They were only made in 4". Is that a rebarrel or did you mean to say model 17?

I have found the 8 3/8 inch S&W N-Frames to be just about useless in most applications.

They are too long to carry concealed.

They are too long to carry comfortable.

Holsters are too expensive because they require more material than a 2 inch snubbie.

They are too cumbersome for the "quick draw".

I have found one use for them. If grabbed by the barrel and thrown as a boomerang they will work almost as well as a boomerang. As in the fact that when they make contact with something, they will knock it out.

Try it sometime. They won't come back to you though.

Seriously I own two, a M29-2 and a M27-2 and will be looking for a M57.

Very nice pics and revolvers here.

My most favorite .357: 27-2

29-3: Too much gun for me; hence, gone. Getting older makes snappy recoil not fun.

These are great hunting guns. Good to shoot but awkward otherwise.
