Consider too that the army does not want to have to buy another mountain of replacement handguns like a gluck along with new holsters . What if a few of the troops are out of commission do to handgun issues plus its embarrassing for both the army and for Sig since they are the supplier of new over priced long guns ! I had my run of lack of QC with early sig p320's so no more sig's in my house .

Now feel free to run over to a siggly forum to pat each others backs .
Totally agree. Traded off a European model 220 that was a great handgun 20 years ago. Should've kept it.
Had a couple of new Sig pistols that turned out to be culls in 2012, & have since moved on. Sent one particular double stack .45 acp back to the home office twice with no real resolution. I was unhappy to hear that they won that contract, but no longer have any Sig handguns, so not an issue for me personally.

.... ...For the US Military it was just a safety issue. They assumed (correctly) that the vast majority of times a 1911 might be used the soldier, sailor or Marine using it would have ample warning of the incoming threat to rack the slide and chamber a round. ........

I have long agreed with this philosophy, ( for most situations), but I find it curious how many people vehemently argue against it. These often seem to be the same folks endlessly lecturing about "situational awareness" , while believing there's a reasonable chance they'll be walking out of the Walmart one afternoon, get completely surprised by multiple ninja-robot-biker-meth-zombies ( with chainsaws!) and go from zero-to-raging-gun-battle, in .003 seconds.
I used to pocket-carry (w/holster) a small Glock, but was always much more comfortable with the chamber empty, figuring I could, in all likelihood, spare the whole second and a half it might take to chamber a round, but according to the internets, I might as well just tote my own bodybag. ;)

Almost comical but regrettably sad... some can't overcome the need to make something difficult, complicated, or awkward to state using real and practical words. Who would use the term "uncommanded discharge"? Someone completely eaten up by tactical compulsive behavior? Chairman of a gunfighting school?
Well, Elon Musk invented the term Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly to describe an explosion, so I guess anything's fair game at this point.

You choose the source that you trust, add a touch of your own judgement and experience, and make your decisions tempered by you own biases. Some people will end up trusting the testing approach and findings of the Air Force, and some people will rely on gossip repeated by a click farmer who's last job was, "Do you want fries with that?"

I do not believe that the chain of command that had to sign off on the continuing use of the Sig system, would have risked carreers doing a sloppy job of testing that could come back and bit them in the butt. If the internet gun guru is wrong, so what?

I still have my ancient Sig P-6. It keeps my bedroom safe every night. At one point several years ago, I bought a SIG P-6 in Stainless. It was beautiful and remarkedly accurate. Unfortunately with it being machined from a solid billet of stainless steel it was so heavy that I couldn't keep my gun belt and pants from falling down. I peddled it. Kind of wish I had kept it now though.

When they turn out to have been proven wrong, the dishonorable and irresponsible Youtubers will totally walk away from their previous line of clickbait BS and continue to run their mouths like nothing ever happened, while also neglecting to present retractions to their damaging and defamatory "content", in reaction to which, their fan base will eagerly gobble down their future YouTube swill.

Although there are certainly a lot of derivative and Clickbait videos and influencers, I think that some very respectable sources have identified significant problems with the design and have helped to drive at least some opinions away from them. There is nothing unfair or illegal about that, it's just what public opinion is this time, sig found itself on the wrong side of opinion, and I think that even a staunch and slavish defender of Sigg Sauer can acknowledge that this crisis was precipitated by their PR reaction to the problem, not the problem itself. Telling all of their customers that we are too stupid to identify potential concerns was really dumb.

You know, that report means that I have to go swimming for the M-17 and M-18 that I tossed after all of the bad mouthing on the web. The bright side is maybe someone else used the same deep hole in the Apalachicola, where I-10 crosses... Wish me luck boys!

This issue goes back a long time and we've closed half a dozen threads because of bickering snd rudeness...

Some people are slow learners.

This is the S&W Forum, not the Sig forum. Go there if you want to get chastised and called out in public.
