Yep, she is huge... Almost 14 inches across and 8 inches deep. The lid is flared away and meant to have hot embers put on top...after this has been set in a bed of ashes. Meant to be buried for up to 8 hours, dug up. The flared lid is lifted off, and keeps ash and dirt away from the goodness, inside.

Flip the lid upside down, and it is your skillet, ...for BREAKFAST.

We have a 10" and a 14" of the shallower design with legs. They have been use to bake many wonderful meals. One of the most interesting being deep dish pizza on a cool September evening. Took the 10" on a back packing trip, a very bad idea! That's about 7 pounds of cast iron. Mostly we use the pie irons to make fruit pies, pizzas, and hot peanut butter sandwhiches now days. Fall camping season is right around the corner, maybe I can bribe her into deep dish pizza or something better. Ivan

"Beans, beans, the musical fruit...
The more ya eat, the more ya toot.
The more ya toot the better ya feel...
so eat beans at every meal!"

NOTE: Author unknown, although I suspect he was a third grader. :D

Itchy has cooked up some wunnerful meals in one similar to that.

They are great for leavin' in the morning and comin' back for supper.

Enchiladas followed by pineapple upside down cake slow cooked in a couple of Dutch ovens in the coals of a camp fire and consumed next to a Tipi is shinin' times, and that's plumb center.
