Sad story: true:
1989, the A/C trade hits bottom, made a "temp' (loan) sale of my wifes favorite 586, 6 inch, a beautiful revolver (and a few guns of mine on outright sale to others.... i.e. I sold mine & knew they are history!) She had one great revolver, super trigger, great blueing, beautiful wood, and she could really shoot that work of art. Anyway when construction started to pick back up, and we small service companies started to recover, I went first to recover her gun..... Sorry Charley, it was stolen. Seems the counter guy at the distributer that I sold it to lived in the country and someone figured out their schedule. (BTW To this day I still trust this guy, he was not the rip-off) He lost a whole lot more than just one gun, they cleaned his family out. Still I feel bad for the wife and she still talks about her prefect revolver to this day when at the range. Sure wish I could find old ABV11XX ......

Post here that you are looking for a real nice one and I guarantee you some good forum members here will contact you to help you get her a great, vintage replacement!

Looks like you married a "keeper." She deserves it!

Best wishes,

Tom

I've lost some through trades that I wish I had back, but I guess the one I'd like to have back the most was a gorgeous little model 60-4 with the 3" barrel and adjustable sights. I just never gave it a chance. Of course I could say that about my model 4" model 63 as well. My 386NG is one I'd definitely love to have back too as well as a wonderfully tuned 686 4". Realistically? I miss them all :(

Not to rub salt in a wound, but, like this one?

I could name a few. No-dash 4" 629 I bought new in '81, M-48 4" with aux. .22 lr cylinder, an early M-18,... I could go on for a while.

Several actually, all gone to pay the bills. A beautiful brand new in it's box 1st year 4" model 66, a gorgeous 1962 vintage 4" model 28. And a 4" model 63, and lastly a like new 50's vintage 38/44 outdoorsman in it's gold box. The first 2 are the real painful ones.

Gee, lets see. A new in box 520 nysp for starters. My 6 inch 586 no dash, 6 inch 686 no dash, 4 inch 681 no dash, model 15 lnib no dash, model 17 no dash lnib, 3 inch Lew Horton 29-3, and a model Brazilian contract. All sold to pay the bills. And that is just the smiths I lost.

I sold my 66 2.5' in 2000 and have regreted it ever since. I just sold my 696 no dash for a butt load of cash but think I will come to regret that also in the years to come.

In Sep. 1980 I put the first 25-5 to hit town on lay away. The wife and I had some problems, and not much extra money, so I thought I'd appease the situation some by selling one. Sold a 28-2 with 50 rounds through it. The day I got the 25-5 out of lay away, went home at lunch and she had moved all her stuff out of the house. If I'd known that was going to happen, I'd NEVER have sold the 28-2. I'm still PO'd about that one. (And no, he wouldn't sell it back to me.)

I had to sell my 637 to pay bills. I am fairly new to S&W so it was my first. Wish i had that one back. That gun was in excellent shape. I bought it from a guy I worked with for $250 bucks last year.

i did the same thing 15yrs ago, and i'm still sick about it.

I had a 629 Classic DX, 6 1/2". I had a dealer find it for me when I first saw them advertised as "coming soon" in the gun magazines. Test target showed 6 rounds in 1 1/4" at 25 yards. I still remember the serial # (BFY4333). Stupidly sold it when I bought a Mustang GT. Also let a Colt Enhanced Combat Elite and a 65-3, 3" get away at the same time.

I was fortunately able to buy the 65-3 back from my friend who felt sorry for me. The person that I sold the DX to had it stolen from a storage unit.

Regards,

Chuck

guns that got away

Last summer the Air Conditioning unit outside my house went kaput- about 20 years old. I didn't have the cash to replace it but a local HVAC repairman offered to install a new unit in exchange for some guns: I paid with a like new Glock 22, a like new Springfield XD45, (both with night sighs), a like-new Model 14-4 in box with papers, and a 6" 27-2 with nice walnut laminate finger groove grips. There is a good chance I can get the 27-2 back when income tax refund comes in. I spoke with the guy and he still has it and is willing to sell it back, thank goodness.

I sold my 6" Model 66 in 1984 to help pay for college. I probably didn't need to do it, but at the time it seemed like the right thing to do. I really missed that gun....until I got my 6" Model 686 in 1995.
I had a Model 28 for a few months about two years ago, but sold it to pay for another gun. Nowadays I'd like to have it back. 357 magnums are easier to shoot in a heavier N framed gun.
I would never sell a gun with the expectation of being able to get it back later on.

sad to say it was a mint 459 that i let someone talk me out of for a good price of 450.00...i really wish i did not sell it.....
