Respectfully, I didn't say they told us not to use it. They explained what it is and what's on it, and actually showed us what we needed to do to access it if we wanted to.

I would guess the vast majority are people looking to rip others off, not law enforcement. Given the number of scammers we ban here, I'd be willing to be the dark web is 80-90% scammers or even higher.

The dark web is made up of sites which cannot be accessed and searched by using conventional internet browsers. To enter it you generally must use the TOR browser, which bounces through servers all over the world in random patterns. It was originally developed in response to needs of users located in oppressive countries, such as China and North Korea, that block access by their citizens to websites they consider to be dangerous and subversive to the ruling regime. Most of the dark web contents were, and still are, those serving such oppressed users. But it has been co-opted by more sinister forces with different agendas.

I wouldn't want to even try looking into it because I've heard that nothing really gets deleted from a computer.
I see enough darkness on the "regular" web.

I ventured there one time. I used to post on some very bad online private chat boards, like personnel threats etc. On the dark web I found death threats on me and accusing me of illegally selling handguns to others.
Obviously, I'm still alive and still have a FFL license. Was a bunch of grown men trying to act tough.

My friend, Vinnie, from Philly...told me how to get in touch with him...when necessary. He also told me the Dark Web was invented in Baltimore in 1888. Actually I really have no idea about it and don't want to go there. But I had another FF friend who signed me up for a Russian Brides site. Took me almost 3 years to FINALLY get unsigned to it...Frustrating if that is the dark web
All this negativity about the dark web. Geez - you guys just don't want Al Qaeda, ISIL, Abu Sayyaf, the Sinaloa Cartel, or other similarly odious types to have fun with like-minded folks in a convenient medium.
