The Dream Box

It really is a beautiful and sincere story and one that I think almost everyone can relate to. At 69, I will still read or see something and think to myself, "Hey, I could do that when I grow up". Once a dreamer, always a dreamer and I hope that we never lose that sense.

And, read! You can teach yourself to write pretty well if you read the authors whose material appeals to you and if you have basic English skills.

A writing or Journalism class can work wonders, too.

It's no easy thing to craft a well plotted work of fiction, keeping all plot lines straight and having your characters speak, dress, and act as they would, if real. It's a serious challenge, but a well written story will give you an enormous sense of achievement.

Oh, yes, you do have to spell well. That should be self evident. but that requirement alone eliminates many of those who post here. But you seem to have that problem behind you.

Go to a large library and scan the stacks of periodicals, looking for one that might buy your writing. It could be a project that bears fruit.

Writing can be a means to keep your mind active, something that my cardiologist recommended when I was considering retirement. I've submitted articles to our American Legion post newsletter, the Cowboy Chronicle and the bar association newsletter. And as Secretary of the town planning commission I create and publish the meeting minutes as a permanent record of the proceedings. I look at it as a two-way benefit.
