You do not need a degree to give meaning to words you just need to write. If you want to be a writer write.
And, read! You can teach yourself to write pretty well if you read the authors whose material appeals to you and if you have basic English skills.
A writing or Journalism class can work wonders, too.

It's no easy thing to craft a well plotted work of fiction, keeping all plot lines straight and having your characters speak, dress, and act as they would, if real. It's a serious challenge, but a well written story will give you an enormous sense of achievement.
Oh, yes, you do have to spell well. That should be self evident. but that requirement alone eliminates many of those who post here. But you seem to have that problem behind you.
Go to a large library and scan the stacks of periodicals, looking for one that might buy your writing. It could be a project that bears fruit.
