In its infinite wisdom, the state of Nevada has decided to remove parallel parking from the skills required to pass the driving test. They have added some kind of test for parking in bays, but it it as generous as the old parallel parking test then you will only hit a come if piloting a supertanker.

The old parallel parking "test" had the cones so far apart there was sufficient room to get in parallel traveling forward. Pathetic.

Observing so called truck drivers the drivers skills test is dumb down also, sadly there is no test for common sense.

Used to be good at parallel parking
but not any more. Glad nearly all
parking is pull in/back out or back
in/pull out.

Was a time when cars front and back
ends could take a certain amount of
bumping, even a little pounding, so
parallel parking didn't damage the
cars too badly when spaces were
tight.

Time moves on and so should the
drivers on this forum, many of whom
probably aren't as good as they
think they are.

Skills EVERY real man should know if driving.

How to parallel park.
How to back a boat trailer.
How to drive a stick.

My brother in law could parallel park his 29 foot sailboat under power using the old Atomic 4 (no bow thruster either!!)

DON'T get me started on all the other lost arts the young'uns do not know

I'm sure this won't be a problem on down the road. No problem at all. :D

I'd be happy if grown adults knew how to park . . . in angled spots.

I agree with needing skills.

Sorry for the thread drift, but one of my greatest accomplishments has been the ability to dock a 69-foot houseboat with some wind blowing over the dock against the two-story floating brick. Have had to do it numerous times at Lake Powell in southern Utah.

Parallel parking on a street or reversing trailers are child’s play.

You probably weren’t trying to be funny there, but I laughed my butt off with the visual that your statement gave me:D

With todays cars with slopeing front ends you cant tell how close you are, so many cars can park themselves, why learn.

An eon ago, I had a beatup Chevy Biscayne.
And it didn't have power steering.

I remember one tight spot in Chicago
where I literally moved the car in front
of me a few inches forward and the
one behind me an inch or two. Perfect
paralell parking. :)

Cost about $30 and an IQ over 50 to get a license in most states.

In Germany, the average price for a driver's license ranges from 2000 euro to 3200 euro (about $2200-3500 US). This life-time license is not easy to get and one out of three applicants even fail the test the first time around, adding more to the initial cost by having to take extra lessons, paying another hefty testing fee. One DUI and your done for life. Their fatality rate is way way below ours a even with some areas of the Autobahn having no speed limit'

In the UK its about $1800 US

What is with all the backing into parking places in the last several years? I got into it a couple of years ago with a guy at Hardee's, I thought he was in the drive thru but he was about to back into a parking space and I got his spot. Is it because of all the backup cameras?

Infinite wisdom, yeah right. Sounds like a bunch of woossie politicians. Who cares about driving tests....(TIC)

Come to NY. We encourage smoking of pot, we don't have bail anymore for criminals - ROR, and we promote illegal aliens to get drivers licences, but we won't tell the Feds you are here.

We still allow the news media to have access to the first amendment, but if you have a gun we encourage you to move elsewhere.

Obviously, I'm being sarcastic, but look around and you'll see that we're going to hell in a handbasket everywhere.

I'll turn that around. Why do so many think it is OK to back OUT of spaces when they can't see? When I learned to drive in the UK that was a total no-no.

From the PERSEC point of view, I always want my car facing out out in case I need to GO.

Reminds me of when my kids school dropped teaching spelling because we all have spellcheck on our phones. Took the PTA two years to get it back. Maybe we are headed to living like the blobs in Wall-E carried around and cared for by machines. To listen to the media, the cars will be driving themselves soon and there will be no licensing.
