The fear in our household is the same as always. My wife had a kidney transplant, and her anti-rejection drugs suppress her immune system. So, we both take great pains to avoid anything that could kill her. We won't be shaking hands with folks at church today, and making sure to wash those hands thoroughly.
 
Don't use Purell or similar to disinfect hands. Use soap and water, then follow up with a rinse of 70% or greater isopropyl alcohol. I saw where some of these hand sanitizers have been taken to task for misleading claims.

Washing with soap and water by themselves is fine. Hand sanitizers work if they're alcohol-based, at least 60%, but your hands should be relatively clean, i.e. not covered in dirt or grease. I would not recommend rinsing your hands in rubbing alcohol as that could dry out your skin. If you do rinse with alcohol, use soap and water after or use a moisturizer.
 
The biggest effect of the virus isn't going to be medical, it will be financial.

We're overly dependent on overseas suppliers, especially China, for a lot of consumer products. And other products as well.

The supply chain is long and vulnerable. Q2 economic numbers are projected to be bad.

The lesson here is that we (as a nation) should take a serious look at where we source products from and maybe change what we do and who we do it with.

As to no one blaming Trump, I'll just say look at the Main Stream Media.

I recall taking my mother to get her shot during the flu scare of 1976, don't remember anyone who got sick, likewise the H1N1 scare a few years ago. My one bout of flu was in the Army in 1969-overcrowded living conditions, lack of proper rest. On another board an AF veteran said they were forced to take the flu shot, he said so many people got sick they had to activate a Reserve unit to cover for them.

but coincidentally(?) Wuhan is the home of a large Bio lab, and also the
area where most pharmaceuticals and their ingredients are produced.
Including those that we use. 80% of pharma ingredients come from
either China or India.

Irony is lost on some people.

But to take your point seriously, information is out there and verifiable. The quote I cited was reported by FOX and CNN plus I saw multiple videos of it.

By reading and cross-referencing news sources from all along the political spectrum and maybe a bit of the foreign press, you can get a pretty accurate idea of what's real and what isn't.

Unfortunately, that seems just a bit too much work for most of our fellow citizens.

Not to derail the OP's thread, but rather an Asian-centric question. What do you think the Chi-Coms will do to quell the Hong Kong riots?
