The end of the .357 Mag....

boy someones blowing wind up there own skirt the price of 327 ammo alone is b/s.it will never replace 357.

My point exactly. It doesn't need to replace the .357. It is smaller with nearly the same performance with less recoil.

It's just a better smaller caliber magnum..:D

Here is a Model 66 with a 617 barrel and cylinder converted to .327....by Hamilton Bowen.

Talk about a Field gun....

So, basically, the point of this whole thread was to show off a new custom gun?

Giz, you must have too much free time (and money) to be able to think this stuff up. :D

The .327 is a round that came out maybe 30-40 years too late. Had it come out in the 1970's or 1980's it may have been the ideal LE revolver round. All it is, really is a hot loaded .32 H&R Magnum with a longer case so it can't chamber in the old .32 H&R revolvers. It could easily have been developed decades ago. .32 H&R Mag is another round that died on the vine except for it's cult following.

I think .327 has a lot of potential as a self defense round, and allows small frame revolvers to be 6-shot instead of 5. I just don't think it will catch on as a "shooter" round.

Most dedicated revolver shooters are set in their ways by now, .38, .357, .44, the die hard .41 fans.

Most newer revolver buyers who get a wheelgun for CC or HD just get a .38 or .357.

I just don't see the .327 getting much beyond the "niche" market, ever. I have been fighting off the urge to get a .327 Ruger GP100 because I don't need to pay $1 a round to do what my .357's can do. A lot of people probably feel this way too. The only saving grace of .327 revolvers is that you can fire all the other .32's through it for cheaper plinking.

Stantheman86....very insightful comments.

Look at Cabelas website. 50 round of 100 grain American Eagle is just over $25 bucks. Cheap for Magnum centerfire.

We need to dispell the oft repeated misconceptions about this cartridge that came out three years ago.

Here is my CCW gun in .327....

Perhaps this caliber will become a future benchmark, against which, others will be judged.

I played with .327 performance before .327 was cool...in the form of a .32-20 and some judicious handloading.

Personally, I like the performance but .327 isn't a case of "less is more." I don't see the .327 taking out the .357 Magnum in my lifetime.

To answer your question, YES I actually owned and shot a 327 magnum. It was a 3" Ruger SP101. I ended up trading it after 6 months. Not only was factory ammo almost unobtainable, including in the nations 7th largest city, but the ammo was unduly expensive. I consider $25 for 50 rounds of plinking ammo unduly expensive. I handload, but not for the 327 mag. Have you tried to find brass for one? Its even rarer than loaded ammo. I tried to get Hornady jacketed bullets from Midway, they were backordered for six months.

I traded the ammoless thing even steven across the board for a new 3" SP 101 in 357 mag. I can get ammo and components for 357. In fact, I already had all sorts of 357 ammo and components.

The lack of ammo alone will spell the doom of the 327 mag.
Everyone makes all different kinds of 357 mag ammo. You can generally find it everywhere that sells ammo. If you can't, you can find 38 special which will fit.

327 Federal, 40 S&w, 41 mag: three dumb answers to 3 dumb questions.

357 Mag, 45 acp, 44 mag: what else is needed? Something to keep Sales & Marketing busy -- not gainfully employed, just busy. Answer above.

I have yet to see any .327 in our Wal-Marts up here. Plenty of .357 mag, 9mm, .45ACP, and .44 mag. Good round but any of the previously mentioned rounds can be found in any store, anytime - outside of the short-term panicking episodes that happen.

I'm going to stick with my Colt Dragoon and Starr- cartridge handguns are just a fad. If I need more horsepower, that's what my Walker is for! ;)

Perhaps the 327 Fed and the 41 Mag but the 40 SW??

It certainly seems to be doing extremely well. It was the 10MM which did not and then became the 40SW

I hate to admit it but...I own a Charter Arms .327 "Patriot". It does shoot well and the flash is significantly different less than the .357 or 38+ loads.
The rounds do tend to swell up and get stuck in the chambers occasionally though.

You probably knew this would get a lot of replies!

The .357 isn't going to go away, ever. It's the favorite of way too many shooters for that to happen.

I don't know anyone who owns a .327, and as for myself, if I was given one, I'd sell it and buy something I want.

Although, I think in a handy little carbine, such as the Marlin, or a Winchester 92 copy, it could be interesting. Sort of like a souped-up .32-20.

Sheep Dip...

I say sheep dip...

I'd just as soon have the old 32-20 rifle loads we shot in our handguns way back when.
Ain't much really new under the sun, now is it?

I's just now come full circle and back to shootin' my three, five, sevens, guess me and the ol' Rm will jest go out together. ;)

Su Amigo,
Dave

Maaaan, I really hate that being I just
Brought home a M28 4 days ago to go with the M13 and M581 performance center revolver here at the house. And Coonan just going back into production with thier semi auto 1911 types that eat .357Mag
All that money for noth'in.
I got a M29 that the .454, .460, and .500 has made me ashamed to take to the range... A custom M1911 that suffers from "not a double stack .40"
Next somebody will tell me I can't be
Cool with 7.62x25 and have to give up handgunning completely.
Seriously, the is nothing wrong with your .327.... But its in no danger here in Texas of replacing any of the old tried and true.
