It's just a title, although it's also a very "political" one when it comes down to it. Being raised as a Southern Baptist, I find "Pope worship" difficult to understand. He's a man with a lot of political power for sure,.........but he's still just a man in a very high ranking position.

I pray that he turns out to he a great leader for the Catholic faithful.

Not to be argumentative, but as a Catholic I never "worshipped the pope" and no one I know did.
He is respected as our leader here on Earth and Gods representative.
He's like the Supreme Court to Catholics.
What he says, goes as far as our faith

While I am not an adherent to that faith there are millions who look to the Pope for spiritual guidance.

It seems he is an advocate for bringing younger families into the fold.

For that I pray for his success.

May they all led into Heaven..... Time is short.

As a Cardinal he was known as being a gun control advocate.

That is and has been pretty much US Conference of Catholic Bishops stand forever. Nothing new here.

I am helping my parish priest build his first M4, and just did a GunBroker for his first CCW piece. Several of the priests in my Diocese have their ARs already, and also have CCW. That should say something about the disconnect twixt policy and the rank/file.

Most Mass-attending Catholics I know own guns and vote conservative.

My dear Irish Catholic grandmother (God rest her soul) used to always tell me that I would be the first Protestant Pope. As a Protestant (Lutheran) graduate of a Catholic University (Villanova) I am sure it warmed her heart to think I was on my way. Considering Leo was there while I was there (he graduated in '77, me in '78) I'll take that as a "close enough". Pretty impressive accomplishment for an Augustinian priest from the Main Line!!

My wife said she read that he has issues with current American political ideas. We hope for the best.

I hope that foremost among the political ideas he has issues with is the proclivity of prominent politicians to support unrestricted abortion on demand while still extolling themselves to be virtuous Catholics.

The "prevost" in the middle age was the chief of the soldiers that keep the security of the tom sort of sheriff in an other word.
So perhaps he could not be fully against guns...

THAT was UNEXPECTED! I remember when if the candidate wasn't Italian, he wasn't going to be Pope. The they had a Pole, an Argentinian and an......AMERICAN!

And I believe Benedict was a German.
