The Geico Gecko

I like the Geico Gecko i think he is funny and i like flo on the progressive insurance commercials as well she is really cute.

The Geico Gecko's accent is a Cockney accent toned down for intelligibility by non-Stepney residents. The confusion with Australian is interesting as the Kent accent sounds remarkably like strine.

As for Flo, I'm sorry but she has something.

Steve-

Thanks. But what's "strine"?

I thought that Kent was pretty upscale?

As for Aussies, Crocodile Dundee's accent is more pronounced or rough than what you hear from, say, Rachel Blakely or Anthony LaPaglia. (When he isn't pretending to be American, as he did on, "Without a Trace".) Hugh Jackman has a good Aussie voice.

I think Aussies can fake US accents more easily than the reverse. Lara Cox did a good job of it on The Lost World and in The Marine 2. On Lost World, the actor playing Prof. Challenger (Peter McCauley) did a better job of sounding British than Will Snow did as Lord Roxton. Snow is Australian; the other man is a New Zealander. Rachel B. just said to heck with it and used her normal Aussie voice. But the show felt so strongly that they needed to appeal to North American audiences that they got Lara Cox a voice coach to help her sound American, although her character was an Anglo Brazilian!
She also guested on, "Beastmaster", a cheaper show from the same producers.

Strine is Australian. There is money in Kent, and it likes to think of itself as better than certain other counties, like Essex on the other side of the Thames. However, the accent still sounds very close to Aussie and they get REALLY grumpy about it when you say so. Of course, that might be the Essex boy in me looking to start something....:D

If the Gecko annoys you don't worry, sooner or later Maxwell the pig will eat him.

I think the Allstate "disaster" guy is funny too. And sorry "Flo haters" but I also think she is attractive as well as funny!... A little pudgy?....Ah maybe. But then I ain't perfect either.

Heh - love the Mayhem ones. Just saw the water heater one yesterday. I think my favorite is the GPS one. "Recalculating...TURN RIGHT, NOW!"

The blind spot commercial where Mayhem hangs on the side of the woman's car and says "You're good!" and lets her sideswipe a truck is my favorite. Those commercials actually do make you think about what would happen with your insurance.
I have no idea what the retarded Geico pig, Gecko or the blessedly absent these days cavemen made you think about. And Progressive's new smug box is just plain lame.

A little known fact (and it will be just about as useless when I get done typing it) the first voice for the Geico Gecko was......Kelsey Grammar.

Lower Uncton? Isn't that near High Dudgeon?

Wrong anyway. The Gecko is representing GEICO, so he's from...

Cheapside!

:rimshot:

Now about those BDO commercials with the world's dimmest businesspeople... Or the two off road yuppie dunces in dueling Land Rovers trying to beat one another at getting a photograph of one of the last California Condors. Can't they have a head on collision and provide food for Condor Mom and this year's chicks?

The gecko will be remembered...

...as one of those classic commercial ideas that you never forget.

I haven't seen a fat Flo. I think she does a great job advertising but the insurance is supposed to be pretty awful in real life. Flo to me defines...... 'perky'. I read that her main work is as a comedienne. I'm sure it's a wig and make up but I like red hair and fair skin.

Aloha,

About Elephant Insurance.

Years ago the Circus came to town and their elephant TYKE lost it

and went on a rampage, which made the national news.

Before he went down, he managed to damage or destroy almost

a dozen vehicles.

Now when I rent a car, I Always ask for Elephant insurance. I have to

explain that to the car rental person, that I want full coverage.

Yes, I know it costs me More, but, it is less hassle for me should the

elephant get loose and damage ny rental car.

BTW, if you get a chance to see the video, the police officer is shooting TYKE

with an S & W 5906. His bullets penetrated about 2 to 3 inches. I met him

not long after the incident. The department gave him a combat ribbon.

Hawaii can be weird at times.

Didn't George Orwell, then a cop in British-ruled Burma, have to shoot a rogue elephant with a Winchester M-92 .44-40, with small effect? I think I had to read his story about that in high school.

How did Honolulu police finally kill that elephant? I'm guessing that they finally resorted to something more than 9mm?

I was amused by your need for "elephant insurance". :D
