If I had to do an organizational chat for the cartels it would be this:

Cartel Leaders Would fall somewhere between the President and Mexico's Congress.

I would add Biden to the list of possible backers, via tying it to Mexico getting aid.

Would it surprise any of us if the current administration said to Mexico "if you take on some of our larger gun manufacturers we'll give you X dollars in aid for X program ...", the administration's goal of course, to weaken the gun manufacturers. Only a possibility, but nothing would surprise me. Viewed another way, Mexico would not be suing American gun manufacturers if the last administration was still there.

So, once again, suing manufacturers for producing products that work as intended, yet are misused by miscreants. When can we sue motor vehicle manufacturers for damages caused by drunk or reckless drivers? I bashed my thumb with a hammer while trying to drive a nail, can I sue the hammer manufacturer?
As always, I expect there is far more to the motivations behind this legal action.

Since neither apply, how can the U.S. courts apply? Since the courts are based on the constitution, I don't think you can pick and choose.

I wonder what kind of evidence they have? They have to prove it - not just claim it.

I think it's another attempt at gun control through bankruptcy through lawsuits.

You'd have to read the filing. The explanation is in there. The SCOTUS has previously ruled on who's laws apply in cross border disputes.

It will be funny to see where this ends up. I'm curious just how many American companies will be willing to export firearms to Mexico or even sell weapons to the Mexican government after the dust settles on this.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, anywhere that allows firearms manufacturers to be held legally responsible for any crimes committed using their weapons should follow the example of Mark Serbu when the NYPD wanted to buy guns that were illegal in NY and refuse to do business with them altogether.

We and the RoM could solve lots of problems by simply having joint points of entry for north and southbound traffic of all kinds. We don't bother stopping folks leaving the US; they don't much care about what goes north. Treating it like we do in several US commercial vehicle interstate highway combined ports of entry gets everyone invested and with uniform equipment.

Spent time recently teaching 'Green Border Surveillance' in Bosnia and Herzegovina; they have EU (hard) borders to the north and west, and softer borders with non-EU countries to the east and south. We KNOW how to fix these problems, and teach others to do so, but too many American politicians get power, donations, and prestige from the existing mess on our southern border to want to fix it.

No EASY fix, but there are all kinds of fixes that will have no real impact on legitimate trade.

MESIS in Amman, Jordan, and Sandia National Labs (among other entities) have training and equipment research exactly applicable to our Southwest border. There are proven 21st century methods and tech to apply to our problem border that will measurably reduce smuggling (all kinds), human trafficking, and terrorist infiltration in both directions without negatively impacting cross-border trade. None make good political slogans.

This case was filed in the Federal Court - District of Massachusetts. That is why the distributor in Boston is one of the defendants.

The plaintiffs are judge/jury shopping - don't be surprised how far this one goes.
