The ideal state for retirement?

Loving County Texas. Population for the whole county is 30.
You can pretty much do whatever you want. No one will be bothered. 10 acres of land $250.00. Build your own empire.

Just starting to look into the state to move for retirement. The main criteria are:
a) Warm climate
b) Gun owner friendly (because I will be carrying daily)
Florida is NOT a candidate because it's too humid in summer.

Suggestions and reasons for suggestion are appreciated. :)

....Hmmmm.........

If you can take the heat during the summer, southwestern Arizona is not bad. Don't be fooled with the myth of "dry heat", however, July through September we have a mean monsoon season that combines desert heat with high humidity. Also we have a state sales and income tax, which suck. The winter is beautiful, almost making the summer heat tolerable.

Don't forget that Jan Brewer the current Governor drew us out of the financial abyss the last one had got us into. Arizona in now financially sound and actually had a budget surplus last year. The R E taxes are also reasonable here.

Take a look at Pahrump, NV. A growing town just over the hills from Las Vegas. Extremely gun friendly, low taxes, reasonable real estate costs and fair shopping. But then Las Vegas is only 45 mins. away. Pahrump is in Nye County and NOT Clark County which I would advise to stay away from. Download Google Earth on your PC and take a look at it. ............ Big Cholla

Western Virginia.

Beautiful mountains, nice people, gun friendly, lots to do. Lots of public land for hunting. Nice weather.

Or Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Beautiful limestone country and a beautiful river. Here are a couple of photos from last weekend:

A few ago one of my associates moved to Pahrump. He built a corral that will probably last longer than all of us. He started with long big Creosote timbers put deep into the ground.
Then he drilled holes through these posts. Then he strung steel cable through the holes. Hooked turnbuckles to the ends of the cables, and brought out the cheater pipe.
After he got those cables tightened, there were as tight as banjos strings.
When you climbed up on the cable, they had absolutely no give at all.

TN.:

- No income taxes (for the most part)
- Farm tax exemption saves you on some state sales tax
- Half decent gun laws, although there is a retardedly stupid CCW/CHP/whatever the heck they call it process
- Lot's or rural land still available outside the big cities.
- Not too hot, not too cold
- Lots of hills and mountains, if that's what you like:

Good luck!

If you're bound and determined to move, the true answer lies in the destination state's tax treatment of your pension.
