On one of the other gun forums I read was a guy that is a paramedic in LA . He said that he see's more people shot dead by fmj ammo than any other type of round .
Shot placement is the key .

I practice with FMJ in my SW1911, so that's what I carry.

At $2 and more a round, I don't foresee a lot of practice with these, and with that weight it's likely to be difficult (and time/ammo consuming) to either find a factory round or work up your own reloads that shoot the same.

I use a JHP for my carry/defense ammo, but found a FMJ version in the same bullet weight that shoots with essentially the same point of impact, so these are my practice ammo most of the time.

The fact that some paramedic sees more people die from FMJ is a nice anecdote, but the issue is not the eventual death of the assailant.

Often, an assailant shot with FMJ or a small caliber eventually dies, but the assailant is often capable of carrying on the attack while he bleeds out.

The issue is finding a round that is a reliable stopper, not an eventual killer.

On a serious note, I hope the user doesnt need more than 1 round. Because these things have severe feeding issues. They surely need to be tweaked.

I'm not at all convinced this would meet that standard, though I admit I'm a throwback. And if it won't feed reliably, the question is moot anyway.

I have a box of the aforementioned PMC tubular ammo in .44 special.
It would not hit the side of a barn let alone the door.
It also was super light (110 gr. in a 44).
It disappeared within a year or 2 after all the hoopla.

My heirs will have to figure out what to do with these.
I won't sell them because I don't want to be responsible
for what happens if anyone shoots them.

Now if they were made of uranium.....

I think it would have great potential if they can make the bullets heavier. If they can figure out a way to reliably shed the petals at the front and have the lower part drive on through for complete penetration, I think they'd really be on to something. I think the solid part of the bullet is too light and won't penetrate enough. I like the all-copper Barnes XPB which is heavier and less likely to come apart.

These guys make something almost identical:

Cutting Edge Bullets

They have a few different weights per caliber.
If you look into the defense model, the gel tests look very similar.
They want about $1.50 per bullet. Sheesh.
You can get A-Frames and solid coppers for less than that.
Now that I look deeper, Cutting Edge also makes solids.
