If you figured out a way to include a kitchen sink on a unicycle, would you? Why can't S&W understand the annalogy.

Funny you should bring up the subject again, last night around 2 am i wondered if one key from one SW gun would lock or unlock the next gun. To lazy to just go try it so I thought about posting a post about it to find out the easy lazy way.

So, will my lock key for my 500 lock or unlock my SWMP-357 8 round shot, performance center?

I've never, ever, ever even tried to lock any on my hand guns for some reason. I've only looked at the dumb little key and tossed it back under the foam rubber in the box. Once I thought about putting super glue in the key hole to make sure it could never be locked. Then some common sense came into play.

Call it mixed feelings. If a target pistol or plinker had a lock I wouldn't get fired up over it. My Walther .22 auto has a lock and I've never felt the need to use it it. If a pistol can be locked and locking prevents an accident or misuse, I'm for it.

On duty or personal defense guns locks are another matter. None of my duty guns has ever had a lock and I doubt they ever will. Reliability is too important and a malfunctioning lock could disable a firearm at a critical time.

Locks are also a departure from tradition. They just don't go over well with many S&W consumers. As some Forum members have said, I'd as soon purchase a used gun without the lock.

No rant, no raving and no jumping up and down. Just an observation and opinion on the lock.

The LOCK is Good, The Lock is Great.

ALL Praise the Lock!:)

I really do not care one way or the other.

MrJT, your link no work. Must be locked.:D

IMHO, S&W locks belong ONLY on S&W handcuffs.

If I want to lock my S&W products so they can't fire when needed . . . I'll put 'em in my safe.

Guns should go "bang," under stress . . . without having to say,

"Excuse me Mr. Bad Guy, can you wait to shoot it out with me until after I can find my little key; stick my little key in that little hole with my shaking hand, and unlock this gun so I can have a fair gun fight with you."

Bad guys don't WANT a fair, mortal fight . . . and neither do I. Frankly, if I have time to unlock my revolver . . . I probably wasn't in an "immediate mortal danger" after all.

You know I own several sets of S&W handcuffs and they do work when you want to lock up your revolver, just open the cylinder and lock the cuffs through the frame window and viola, your gun is locked. They should have left it at that.

I too wish smith had never put the lock on their revolvers!!! BUT you tell me who makes a same same quality double action revolver these days lock or no lock!!!

I'll be damned if I will let the lock keep me from enjoying a fine gun, I only have one with a lock,( so far ) and the first time I got it and my brownell screwdrivers together the locking stud piece came out and never will be put back.

Its still a fine revolver.

I'll buy a similar model at a similar price w/no lock first, but I WILL not let the lock keep me from buying a current model at a good price!!! 308
