The Most Famous Person You've Met

Mickey Mantle
Joey Heatherton hot, hot, hot at the great gorge,nj playing club when it first opened my brother had a gold card.

Working an airline ticket counter you meet a lot of people. The guys in Lynard Skynard, Molly Hatchet and .38 Special. Actors Billy Barty, Robert Donner (bad guy in a couple of John Wayne movies and Exidor on Mork and Mindy), Wayne Rogers. Joe Namath and Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Don Newcombe. But I guess the most famous person I ever met was actor, shooter and NRA President Charlton Heston. There was a certain "presence" about Heston that you could feel just being near him.

That's partly because he was not only Ben Hur, but Moses as well as the Voice of God (the Burning bush in 10 Commandments) :D

SAM WALTON:)

Met him twice--his children are nothing like he was.

Those ive met not necessarily in order are:

James Francis Cagney Great man and I met him at an outdoor coffee place in L.A. a few years before he passed away.
Gerold McRainey and the other guy who was in Simon and Simon--when they were filming a Jeep commercial in my hometown-back early 80s. The other guy was nice but McRainey refused to acknowledge anyone and was a snob.
Pres GHW Bush when he did the Texas A&I Graduation speech.
Mr.T. when he came locally for a few days when he was doing that Tough Man contest gig. He was down to earth and really a nice guy. Yes--he was wearing all that gold jewelry (and more) as is seen on: The A: Team. We started talking and we walked out of the mall together to his limo and talked for about 10 more minutes. I asked about him doing The A Team and he loved working with the others especially the crazy guy.

I met Pres Ford when he came to the airport in Corpus Christi-early 70s. I dont remember much since I was a Munchkin then :D

Ive met Pappy Boyington's Son-in-Law.

Other notable Vets include but not limited to:
Dutch Van Kirk--the Enola Gays Navigator. I met him at the same time as B.Gen David Lee "Tex" Hill and both were making rounds at the huge Gun Show in San Antonio. Have signed pics both of them and a few other sigs from Flying Tigers.

Met both Barbie Twins and even stayed in touch with one of them for about a year.

Met Kirk Douglas, Soon Tek Oh, and James Farentino when they went to the world premier of: The Final Countdown--which was shown in Kingsville, Texas before it was again world premiered in NY. I opened the door for Kirk Douglas and James Farentino--and they looked at me-Kirk shook my hand and Farentino smiled.

Ive seen Bush Jr on a number of occasions as well as Dick Cheney.

I saw Farrah Fawcett when she visited her parents here in CC a number of years ago. Farrah was raised here and her parents still have a home here.

There are others but cant think of them off-hand?

Oh I forgot-for Car racing fans.

Ive met both Bobby and Terry Labonte a number of times when they go stay at my Brother in Laws home. They grew up together and illegally raced all over Nueces County back in the day. They come by a few times a year to visit. Both are funny as hell to chat with.

And the reason why im posting this one here is because I won a car race with this singer
GeorgeStraitsongPics1YMaGzg0ygGKzM.jpg

when he was in Kingsville back in 85. I had a race with George Strait and won--from somewhere on 6th Street in Kgsvl-to Dick Kleberg park. If I won? he said he would give Patti and I--two tickets to see his Concert. If I lost? I had to buy him a 6 pack of Beer. I was driving a 69 Valiant and he was in a Limo. I beat him to Dick Kleberg Park by about 30 seconds. True to his word-he gave us two front row-center-tickets to the concert on Sat night at JK Northway--but Patti and I--being young lovebirds-forgot about the concert and didnt attend.

When I worked at Dulles airport back in the early 80's I met Roger Moore and Sammy Davis Jr.. Roger Moore was just standing in line waiting for his flight toParis to start boarding. Sammy was shopping at the duty free shop with his entourage. I also met Senator Sonny Bono back when I was working at Toyota of North Arlington selling parts.

I can not recall meeting anyone famous but I did receive two letters from President Johnson. They both started with greeting from the President of the United States. I still have them around here somewhere.

Didnt meet him but I almost got johnny cash killed! I was driving a pickup and towing my car back east in 1964. I came to a T-intersection and there was some big club or whatever straight ahead. There was a small group of people gathered around JC as he was getting in the passenger side of a caddy with abou 4 guys getting in it. I thought well thats neat and made my turn and drove on. A few miles latter I seen the cad in my mirror waiting to get around me. It was a narrow curvy road in kentucky or tennesse. I was towing my car and no doubt was extra hard to get around. Finaly I seen what I thought was a fair opening, hit my left turn signal, slowed and pulled to the right side far as I could. At the same time here come a car flying low towards me on a curve and it almost looked like he was going on two wheels real fast!
Johnnys driver made it around me but it was about as close as you ever seen! I coulda been famous in the obits with johnny!
Ironicly, I have a brother in law who is a close friend to johnnys son, john carter cash and was helping him get a museum started back there for johnny a few years ago.

Carroll Shelby in Tulsa OK at Mid America Shelby & Ford meet

Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11, he autographed his book for my grandson; Don Laughlin, founder of Laughlin, NV. He was playing slots down 2 machines from mine...came over to see what I had won when the bells started going off.....said I had just cost him some money.

Speaking of Johnson, I almost met "Lady Bird" by accident when my Mother and I were touring their Ranch. I was looking for a restroom and given directions-but got lost in the house finding HER restroom. When I left the restroom, I was kindly escorted back to the tour by 2 Secret Service guys. :D

I found the incident almost as funny as the one I had when I was given wrong Gun Show date b y a guard at a local Expo center-I showed up 1 week early thanks to being given wrong date--and was sitting holding bayonetted rifle-German helmet and other stuff-when a very large group of Jehovah Witnesses came into the building--keenly keeping eyes on me as they passed by. :D

Earlier in the Thread I mentioned meeting Bob Hope.

Back in November of 2006 I met Brigadier General Paul Tibbets.(yes, that guy.) He was at a gun show signing his books in Columbus,OH and died shortly there after in 2007.

I brought 2 copies of my Uncles book with me to give the Gen. "Ill Wind" about the USS Shenandoah (ZR1). A US NAVY dirigible that crashed in Noble County Ohio September 1925. His buddy sitting to the right of the General was a Navy Vet. I gave them both a copy of my Uncles book.

The pictures are of him signing Gen Tibbets book. He wrote two paragraphs to my Dad (instead of an autograph..) who just got home from heart surgery that morning. (He told Dad that he heard he was under the weather and said something like "Get better son!") The General was 91 then...Dad was 72. :)

I got one of his books for myself also.

I finally thought of somebody....

This is hilarious because I live in a backwater for famous people, the only that ever come here are washed up movie/TV stars

Probably the most famous I actually knew was Ray Blouin of the 60's folk band, the Wayfarers. He taught at a community college I was at and opened a club in downtown Charleston in the 70's with a former bandmate. He's moved on but is still playing.

A dubious famous person was Jules Garvin, who billed himself as Andy Rooney's stand in on dance scenes. He did look a lot like Andy Rooney.

I didn't meet him but my wife and I came up alongside Ted Turner driving toward Charleston. He was in a station wagon with WTBS stickers on it and we fooled around with him for a few miles.

Another strange driving coincidence is that one morning we were driving to church and listening to Fiona Ritchie's radio show "Thistle and Shamrock" that I had taped. We stopped at a traffic light and Fiona Ritchie pulls up alongside of us with her 'Fiona1' license plate and 'Thistle and Shamrock' stickers on her car. We tried to get the window down to let her know we were listening to her but she turned off before we could get her attention.

Gene autry and his wife when I was 8 or 9 years old. My mother ran a fruit stand in front of our house on the highway. They stopped and then wanted to walk around our little farm. Dad and ma walked around with them for quite awhile. I was a bashful kid and most of the time I peeked around a tree I think. I belive they had a chrome steer horn on front of their car, cow hide black & white upolstery in the car etc. This was back around 1949. Later I met many tv and movie actors on my security job at universal studios around 1965, but I was impressed the most by them at that age. I had several friends that were lesser known actors. I worked with at least 4 guards on my department that had secondary parts in movies and tv series through the years.

Bob Seger when he was a nobody.
Clint Eastwood while on vacation in CA. Me and my girlfriend stopped for breakfast in Carmel. Little restaurant with an outdoor patio. We sat down and the guy at the next table was reading the paper. He put the paper down to eat and my GF grabs my arm and says "look its Clint Eastwood". Thought she was being funny but sure enough it was.Waited till he was done eating to say hello to him. We talked for about 15 minutes. Very nice guy. He left. We finished our coffee and asked for the check. The waitress said "Mr. Eastwood bought your breakfast". How cool is that? Class guy all the way.
Met most of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I bowled with Mark Malone and shot trap with Jack Lambert.

Your Clint Eastwood time was a lot like the time I spent with James Cagney. He did offer to buy us a drink and something to eat-but being too bashful, we declined on because we felt we were taking up too much of his time. I think we chatted for about 15-20 minutes?
