The Most Famous Person You've Met

"I met Utah Senator Jake Garn once, in 1996. We talked for about 20 minutes about many subjects, including his space flight. He was like a normal guy & very easy to talk to."

I have met him several times. I have immense respect for him. He was a Navy carrier pilot and then mayor of Salt Lake City before serving in the Senate. A true public servant.
 
Met Prince Bernard from the Netherlands by an opening of the Marine museum at Rotterdam. I admire that old rascall. I regred that he is dead now.

My nicest experience is riding horse with gunauthor Phill Spangenberger for about 3 hours and after that having dinner with him.
It is a very nice man.
 
I grew up in the 1950s in New Jersey. My Dad was a big wrestling fan and would go to Madison Square Garden and maybe an arena in Newark. My Mom was a great Hungarian cook who actually appeared on Julia Child's TV show cooking something. My sister was the the president of the local Gene & Steve Stanley (wrestlers) fan club.
Somehow when ever these wrestlers came into NYC for their matches they ended up staying at our house, or at least ended up at the Sunday dinner table. Antonio Rocca, Killer Kawalski. When they did the film Requiem for a Heavyweight all these "bums" were in the film. One Sunday we had Anthony Quinn who appeared in the film at our table. I was maybe 8 years old and just barely remember it with the help of my sister's photo albums.
 
Spoke with Barbara Eden for a few moments at one of her appearances. As sweet and nice as a person could be. She was about 50 at the time and more of a knockout in person than she was on TV. Absolutely gorgeous.

Met Mike Huckabee briefly when he was governor of AR and I was working at a state agency. Very nice man.

Met Jonathan Harris who played the evil Dr. Smith on the old Lost in Space TV series. Kind of a dick.

Spoke to Richard Keil who is most famous as "Jaws" in the 007 film Moonraker. We had flown on a plane together. He is a huge man, nearly seven feet tall but like many tall people he has bad hips and it was painful to watch him walk through through the airport. Nice guy.

Alan Autry was Bubba on the TV show In the Heat of the Night. After the show ended he lived in my hometown of Fresno, CA and was elected mayor. I never really met him but I sat next to him in a restaurant one day.

Marty Ingles, comic and actor who is married to Shirley Jones, stood in line ahead of me at a McDonald's in SoCal in 1971.

That's it. Only a few minor brushes with fame.
 
Luis Guzmán a couple of times since he lives around here. Almost had a chance to play pool with him one night at a club, but he ended up having to leave before we had a chance to get the game going.

Real nice guy and very much a family man.

I think Richard Kiel played every large alien on tv shows back in the 60's, most notably as every alien in the "To Serve Man" episode.

And Barbara Eden.........what a beauty.

I met Hosea Greco, famous Mexican flamenco dancer from years ago. I had my picture taken with him and still have it. I used to love to see him dance those Spanish flamenco dances on tv, in his fancy cowboy boots and colorful Spanish cowboy clothing. Very nice gentleman.

Been involved in the music world for many years. Met and know many music "stars". Going to SoCal next weekend to see a dear friend and one of my favorite musicians, Vince Gill.

There won't be any golf involved in that visit will there?

I saw Vince in concert at Pine Knob in Michigan years ago. Mary Chapin Carpenter opened for him. He put on a great show. We could see his father sitting offstage in an easy chair watching the show.

I'll bet he's a great guy to hang around with. No ego issues. Have fun on your visit.
 
...having had the misfortune of working in D.C. for 25 years, my list includes Reagan, Bush, Sr., Carter, too many senators to count, Coretta King, Heston, Rumsfeld, several attorneys general, a few film personalities and the best was...Ron Reagan.
I was at the White House on business. He was walking by, stopped, offered his hand and said, "Hi, I'm Ron Reagan." I said, "Yes, Mr. President, I know." He asked what I was doing there and he continued to talk to me in spite of his handlers tugging at his coat sleeve. A genuine and very interesting man.
The worst???...Jesse Jackson...overly self-impressed.
 
Two heros, Barry Goldwater and Elmer Keith

and one bum, John B. Anderson, one of the all time great RINOs, who once said he carried his wallet on the right and his heart on the left. He was in a Sunday School Class my father taught back in the late thirties.

Ironically, the grocery store his father ran was later a gun shop, in the seventies.
 
Interesting how reading these jogs the memory. Dick and Pat Nixon,
Hubert Humphrey as VP, Louis Armstrong, Charlton Heston, Bill Ruger,
Carroll Shelby, Stirling Moss, Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Phil Hill (the best), Geo. Bush, Sr & W, I guess Wayne LaPierre counts as others have mentioned him, Chuck Yeager, Newt Gingrich (much more impressive in person than in media), Bob Gates. Military folks aren't as well known and try not to be celebs, but Gen. Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs under W is a very impressive individual and an honor to meet. An interesting thread--"famous" means different things to different folks, cool.
