THE NEW 586

To date I don't own any "lock" Smiths, but I won't say never. I also find the hammer mounted firing pin more attractive.
I don't understand why, w/plenty of nice used 586's around a new one would be a consideration. Could it be that new shorter bbl versions are available which are scarce to practically nonexistent in the previous runs?

I could care less about the lock.

I use C&S extended firing pins in all my new S&W's (just a personal choice) and they are just as good as any of my many older S&W's. I just like the added insurance of a solid, deep primer strike.

I would love to own a new 4" 586, and I already have a 6" 586-1.
