In the search for a subterranean bore axis and low recoil, the wizards at Rock Island Armory came up the gun in this video.

The gun is finally field stripped at minute 17 in the video. I'm pretty sure I've worked out the operating system, which is using a separate piece near the muzzle to lock the slide and barrel together like the Bergmann system. The locking piece is pushed down to release the barrel by the taper on the end of the recoil spring guide rod.

Allegedly, the weapon contains something called the RVS or Ram Valve System to manage recoil. Call me less than convinced, because I cannot see anything like a valve when it is disassembled. Nor can the online reviewers elsewhere. I think the recoil is managed in that the design has put weight on the barrel, and taken it off the slide. Seems to make sense when you consider the slide is the thing that moves the greatest distance.

Whatever, in the shooting part of the video it looks like the magic works. Sootch always demonstrates excellent recoil control in his reviews, but the lack of muzzle flip in this video is almost spooky. My one negative comment on the design is that you could never use it as a military gun. It wouldn't take much dirt to gum up the works.

What say y'all?

Interesting. I'm pleasantly surprised they'd make a semiauto today with the option of not having an optic cutout. I guess asking for one without a dust cover rail would be too much. :)

I can recommend RIA's customer service, with my very limited contact. I emailed them about a question I had with their inexpensive folding single-shot Turkish made shotgun that I bought, and got a fast, helpful reply, and a follow-up email a day or so later to make sure I was satisfied.

Much better than my experience with EAA regarding a Canik Rival. That pistol is great, my experience with their customer service not so much.

Looks like a great FS service sidearm. Take a little over an inch off the barrel and the same off the grip and you'd have a good carry version too.
