The Pinnacle of Pilot Mountain viewed from the over look a navigational point for Native Americans and European Settlers. Most people drive to the top. Some of us walk. Those that drive to the top sweat less and smell a lot better at the end of the day. Those that ride bicycles to the top have the ride of their life going down.

Great picture Dennis. I used to see it from 52 North most mornings when I was driving to my office in Rural Hall.

Thanks for a much better view.

Frank

On a motorcycle it's fun both up and down. Best seen on a early morning week day in the winter when there are no crowds.......

I grew up in Greensboro, so of course we all knew it was Pilot Mountain. It was always a distinctive landmark heading west. But to generations of Andy Griffith watchers it is probably still considered Mt. Pilot.

Hey Dennis,
It still looks pretty good from 52. Even better if you free climb it (1969/70).

Looks like a volcanic plug.

Where's Jerry Lewis when we need him?

GLL, wake up and answer.

I'm seeing striations across the "Plug", and it looks more like sediment than Ignious rocks. Its too far away to really see.

Round Mountain in Castle Valley, Utah is a great example of an eroded volcano.
