Just got back from making the dreaded final trip to the vet with one of my boys.
I adopted an older boy "Kevin" and a big kitten "Bronco" as a bonded pair just over 4 years ago from a local rescue. Kevin has fought "GI" issues ever since I got him. A prescription diet helped for about 3 years but he has continued to lose weight while still eating fairly well. This past week I noticed that Kevin had started to cut back on his food intake and yesterday he only ate about a teaspoon full of wet food at his morning feeding and only took a few bites of prescription dry food during the day. Kevin was also showing signs of confusion and I was having to take him to his litter box.
Kevin has always been my cuddler, climbing on my chest each evening in the recliner and rubbing up against my beard as he lay purring until he went to sleep. Last night Kevin, didn't climb up on my chest instead he wandered off to lay in the hammock in his cat tree and I fully expected to find him there this morning when I got up. Such was not the case so I made the dreaded phone call and set up his final appointment.
I am going to miss those cuddles, especially tonight. I'm not sure how Bronco is going to handle missing his big brother.
I know Kevin will be welcomed on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge by a whole passel of my previous furry family members and I can only pray that I will see them all again.
