Great movie, but not for everybody. If you think this one was grim, wait until Cormac McCarthy's horrifically violent opus "Blood Meridian" comes to a theater near you sometime in 2011.

The father's revolver was small and nickel plates in the book, suggesting a snubby. Ah well. Looked like a 10-5, maybe 10-7, some common variant of the family. Prelock obviously, older style cylinder release, and hammer mounted firing pin.

The Road was the first Cormac McCarthy book I read and convinced me to read the rest of his books. Haven't seen the movie yet but am anxious to see it.

Just watched it, it's out on DVD, got it from Netflixs. Interesting movie, well worth watching....

In the book, Dad has only two cartridges, so whittles some fake cartridges from wood, darkens the ends to look like real bullets, so that any perps would think the revolver was fully loaded when pointed at them, which he has to do with some regularity...

Note to self: Make sure you have plenty of ammo in the post-apocaliptic world!

I watched it last night (Netflix). What a waste of time. The kid was a brat and the woman totally off the scale of humanity. People don't act like that; at least not for long in tough situations.

He's thrown his empty brass away or lost it in the book. He was going to try to reload the empties using some .45 ammunition that he'd found, but no longer had them. Make sure to pocket your brass and keep it handy.

I thought the book was WAY over rated.
The people were faceless... you really dont get to know them as people.
If I cant get to know them... why should I care about them.
I felt no emotion during the book... luckily I only wasted an afternoon on it.
