The new NRA mag. features the new Steve McQueen style cut down 1892 Winchester copy being sold as a legitimate handgun. I love this thing! I have more priorities than spending around $550 for this, but it would be a blast. And 44 Mag would be my only choice and shoot .44 Specials in it like my Browning 92. what do you think of this cool little blaster?

I have no idea what practical use it would have but on the "neat-o-meter" it's off the scale. I love it!

I had an initial "I want one of those" reactions but then I started thinking about how one would use the thing?

I read that article with some misgiving. It appears that they are making Marlin 336s? Also, the price of the ranch hand seemed a bit high, but I thought that would be pretty cool with a regular rifle stock and the short barrel. Can't see any useful purpose for the "handgun" version, but as a short rifle it would be a good truck gun. Imagine the unfortunate carjacker having that bore be his last sight on earth?

I could be wrong, but in its current configuration, it is a handgun. If you added a full sized stock, it may be considered "sawed off" and therefore illegal. When I read the story, I thought it was neat, but not neat enough to buy.

Correct. (Actually, it would not be illegal, it would be an NFA Weapon [SBR], needing a Form 4 and $200 tax stamp. THAT'S why they made it as a "handgun"!)

I'm like most of you, I can see no earthly use for one, -- but-- ,I want one if only to bring back memories of my younger days.

It's part of "Hollywood history" so there is a market for it.
Me...I spent my bucks on the saddle-ring carbine (.45 Colt.)
Smoothest action since the originals.

Couldn't be happier!

I can think of a lot of things more handy to shoot that carry 6 round capacity in those calibers. But a 7th round in the chamber and the 'look' will probably bring out some buyers.

I'd probably just buy a whole Carbine myself.

I think this would be a great tractor-gun!

No, not for shooting tractors! :p
For shooting off the tractor. :D

Semi-autos get brass down my shirt.
A .500 has taken the paint off of the hood! :o
(off of a buddies hood that is- I'd never try it!)

This is a great compromise. This, and a Judge are all I need for rat kill'n!

I like it because it isn't "tacticool" and has no el-cheapo junk plastic parts.

My friend Kip is smitten with one of these things. He says it's his next purchase. I pointed out to him that while yes, it is pretty cool, it's totally impractical. I have a Rossi Carbine in .357 with the 16" barrel and it's a viable hunting tool / self defense weapon, and still extremely portable. If I can't talk him out of buying it, then at least someone will get a good deal on one when he figures out I was right and sells it to buy his next toy.

For those of us who hunt in no-rifle areas, it's got some interesting potential. I've got a .30-30 Contender pistol for this year, but I'm sorely tempted by the Ranch Hand in .44Mag. A 240gr jacketed soft point ought to do a good job on whitetails!

I keep thinking of getting of them in .45 Colt and then getting a SBR Stamp and put the full stock back on it. That would be a 19th Century SBR Fun Gun!!!

I apologize for pointing out the obvious, but why not just get a 10" Contender barrel in .44 Mag?

Most of us have done exactly what you're doing. We justify a "want" enough until it becomes a "need".

I'll give the new Ranch Hand this, though. When you show it off to your friends, they will say, "Hey, this is cool!".

I don't need it, but I want one! In .44 of course. $550 sounds extremely reasonable when compared to $1250 for a Puma or $1700 - $2000 for the JB Custom!

A Contender?! You can't stand around in the living room twirling around a Contender while watching reruns of Wanted, Dead or Alive like you can with this little lever gun.
