The seldom-seen 8-3/8" .44 Special

Very nice. If it shoots half as good as it looks I think you did well.

Here are some before/after pics.

There is an appropriate caliber stamp on the barrel. You can see from the reflection the change in contour where it was flattened slightly to remove the old lettering. Hey look - it's a CTG!

I was surprised to see that Andy replaced the original rear sight with one from a Model 27 - note the change from grooves to checkering. I guess he just couldn't stand the mismatch in style with the top of the barrel rib, although he didn't go whole hog and checker the topstrap. That would've been a lot of work and I didn't ask for it.

Of course since the base gun is a Model 28-2 it was pinned and recessed, so Andy enlarged the recesses for the larger caliber. FYI, the Model 27 barrel was from a 27-2 so it already had the groove for the pin.

Here's one of the marks of a professional refinish as opposed to a Bubba - the sideplate seam is still clean.

As mentioned, the hammer and trigger were re-cased. Note that the logo stamp is hardly any shallower.

Looks like he refreshed the checkering on the hammer.

The recoil shield is a soft matte finish.

The front sight is about as tall as I've seen. I don't know if Andy had one on hand or had to make it. It measures .360 to the base whereas on my 6-1/2" guns it measures .320.

If you don't mind me asking....What did the work that Andy did run you? If you don't want to post publicly you can PM me.I have been toying with the idea of doing something similar as I am a die hard .44spl fan.

Alex, the total for the work that Andy did was $796. That doesn't include the Model 28-2 donor gun, barrel, or reboring of the barrel.
