I think I've found the answer to the age old question, "Ginger or Mary Ann?". Why not BOTH?? :D
Some of y'all may recall the 629-6 PC Black Comp Hunter I picked up recently. NIB with all the goodies and never shot outside the factory and supposedly only 200 made.

Well, it was driving me crazy not shooting this gun. Everyone was talking me out of it because it was such a rare bird. Then what do I run across on GB? Another Black Comp Hunter but this one had a Bushnell scope mounted on it and had already been fired. I contacted the seller and no box or PC rug. :( I had to sleep on this one for a minute and finally decided to jump on it. So here they are, Ginger and Mary Ann!!

Now I'm back to square one though. Which one is Ginger and which one is Mary Ann????:confused:

And of course, the obligatory dirty pic!!

25 yds free standing.

Thanks as always for letting me show n tell!

Those two are stunners! Not bad shooting, but your taxidermist is going to have is work cut out fixing the huge holes those two flyers made to the horn and the snout...;)

I will confess that the 44Mag is not comfortable for me to shoot, but with one of those 629's and the lead SWC's it looks like it might be almost pleasant to shoot - even the stout loads?

Thanks for sharing,

Very, very nice.
The cylinder looks like it's made of stainless steel.
What type of steel and finish is the frame and barrel?

Thanks Gator. The frame and barrel are stainless too. I believe the black finish is what S&W calls the "Black Magic" finish covered with a polymer clear coat.

Nice. I had many safe queens that I now shoot. Guns are made for that purpose. Why have them locked up for many years to the point one even forgets they have them. I would rather my kid's and grand-kids have memories of us shooting pop's guns. They will hold on to them that way. They build a connection with each, other wise they will just sell them. Having something 25 to 50 years and not using it is foolish. The only item I want to store for a long time is my life insurance policy. Ha Ha

Ginger or Mary Ann? That's easy...the one with the scope is Mary Ann because that is the one who doesn't mind you taking her out, getting her all dirty and having fun with her, because she loves to perform for you! The other one is Ginger, all movie star good looks with nary a hair out of place, fun to show off but ONLY YOU get to run your hands all over her while others just drool. See, easy!

Thank for the information. It's a beautiful finish.

Beautiful.........

So how does it shoot?

Lol.......

For the first range trip, it was a very comfortable gun to shoot. I was using 240 gr swc with 7.3 gr of Trail Boss. I don't get the same adrenaline rush abusing myself like I did when I was younger. Very nice trigger. The hammer and trigger are still the forged steel, not MIM.

Thanks for sharing; those are gorgeous. Shiny. Makes me want to find out if the factory will put that finish on my M&P 340.

I would have to shoot that long barreled model.

Your great dilemma and its solution made me wonder about the number of safe-queen collectors compared to shooters. I'm guessing there are more shooters so there will always be a market for ones we can't resist taking out for a spin. Nothing at all wrong with fondling a beautiful gun, but that doesn't mean we can't also have fun and get it dirty.

The world needs more Mary Anns and far fewer Gingers.

Tin Knocker,
That's a sweet pair of sixguns, I really like the two tone look.
I'm thinking about another 629 picture thread but no new photos or guns. If I start one will you post up your awesome photos?

Jiw

You can count on it Chris! Things have been a little stagnant up there in Maine lately...Rack 'em up buddy!! :D

That configuration looks far better with the black finish! Had one in the usual bare stainless and could not hardly bear to look at it, so it got turned into something else after a year or so.

ETA: Well! Can access P'bucket again! Turns out not quite the same. No integral brake and unfluted cylinder:

Yours just look better.
