This isn't a debate as to the guilt or innocence of either person involved in this shooting.

This is an example that proves without a doubt that if you intend to use a gun for self defense, you had better prepare yourself properly.

Simply having a gun and knowing how to use it is not enough. You must know any and all laws pertaining to the legal use of force.

If there is any doubt that a shooting is not justified you will find yourself in court. You might find yourself in court anyway.

Experts such as Mas Ayoob and Mart Hayes have been saying this for years but some people never learn.

A movie has been made about this event of which HBO has acquired the rights. It shows actual courtroom testimony.

Be safe out there.

In the context of the OP I think it is a great example.

Even if you do not conceal carry are keep a gun for self defense, perhaps if you don't even own a gun. We should all try to become familiar with the law as it pertains to self defense.

Unless this is a very biased account that leaves out a lot of info, it doesn't even sound like a case of self defense. The article says the shooter had a verbal disagreement with the youths about their blaring music and then decided to retrieve his firearm from his car and shoot one of them. No mention of them attacking him.

Like I said, unless there is some very crucial information being left out here - a.k.a. a biased account of the events - this sounds more like a case of someone "going postal" and deciding to resolve a verbal dispute using a gun. That is against the law in every state, and anyone who doesn't know that isn't mature enough or intelligent enough to own a firearm IMO. Who is delusional enough to think you can just up and shoot someone to settle a heated argument?

You have to think all the time.

Even I would have had sense enough to retreat from that situation. No retreat means you don't have to run, but that would have been a perfect example of when to just consider the source and just leave. Nothing wrong or unmanly about that, just being smart. Now if they had followed him .......??? Different situation entirely. I carry my 870 for backup in my truck. Loaded and legal here, just can't walk around with it, would if I could. Control your situation whenever possible. Kept me above ground for 64 years so far. Always be aware of your surroundings and be safe.

Happened a few miles from My House, My take is The Shooter should have just kept to Himself & said nothing & gone on His Way,Shooter tried to say they pointed possibly a Shotgun out of 1 of the rear windows but no weapon was ever recovered,Loud Music is common place @ Gas Stations in these parts.

Dude's a hothead and an imbecile. Deserves to be in the slammer and enjoying all of the social events that take place there, such as playing hide the salami with some dude named Rufus.

I watched this movie on HBO and can't comment on any bias, but what sunk his boat, IMHO, was his girlfriend testifying against him.

Wow, what an amazing *******. Hadn't heard about this one, it's a damn shame it got as far as it did. Screw people that feel the need to pick a fight because they disagree with someone's choice of music, and double screw anyone who does so with a gun. Hotheaded racist *******s like this get lumped in with the rest of us gun owners and I can't stand that.
