It has been an hour since my first post in this thread. While I was getting a shower, I kept thinking about my dad and his dreams of success and the yardstick he would measurer it by.
When I was about 5 months old (June 1956), Dad was crushed in a car crash, and pronounced dead at the scene, DOA and dead in surgery! Yet he only actually died two years ago. While he was in the hospital, from his bed he could see the most elegant apartment building in all of Columbus. It was 8 stories (about 200 units) with 3 two story penthouses on top. The penthouses each had a privet pool! Built in the 1920's it was in a Deco style. Dad made an inner vow to own that building some day!
Less that 10 years later he built his first apartment building of 4 units., then another and another, you get the idea.
In late 1979 that building came up for sale! Dad got a team of engineers and went to inspect the building. My older brother went along to give input and advice. The still externally beautiful building was now in the middle of a ghetto. Important infrastructure maintenance had been deferred, and the interior was crumbling! My brother could see dad begin to visibly slump! As they walked through, my brother started pointing out all the old lovely features, and saying thing like "This is wonderful" and "To think they did all this back in the 20's". The Engineers came to the conclusion the the cost to stabilize and upgrade the building would be double what it would cost to build a new one!
But dad didn't walk out with a shattered dream. He walked out knowing he. "Had Arrived!", for he no longer needed the building to prove to himself that he was successful.
Back to the car at hand:
If you watched The Saint, you knew Simon's car was HOT, who would I or anyone else be to dash your dreams. I have friends with kit cars of Porches 1955 Spiders, then they get the where with all to buy an original, and realize their 1/4 the price kit car has 50% more performance, than the real one.
If you have the money and are so inclined, buy this car! It will do for real, what Simon's car could do with trick photography.
And my sincere apologies for criticizing your dreams!
