For those who remember "The Saint" TV show and his P1800 Volvo coupe.;)

Cyan racing revisits it.:D

And... See it perform in the snow. Since it's the "season".:D

Not exactly the look that I would want for half a million dollars! I guess the intended market is in countries where you can't own guns at any price.

There's two oddball cars that I've always loved, and I have no idea why.

They made version of the P1800 they called the "Sport Wagon". That's one.

The other is the Lotus Europa. I've never owned either and doubt I ever will. At this point I doubt my ability to enter a Europa.

I like the Shelby Blue on a Volvo! Never thought I would use “Shelby” and “Volvo” in the same sentence! But I think Carol would approve.

As I watch more snow fall, I have given up on ever getting my Shelby out of the garage again. I can’t imagine this melting before July or August.

Well. That is not the "Shelby blue". Notice there is also yellow.

Volvo is Swedish. Meet the flag of Sweden.:D

I do like it. But half a mill? For a Volvo? Should I have that kinda money for retro mod car I would go for the re-imagined Lancia 037 or some such.

Even Simon Templar moved on to Jaguar and Jensen after all (in TV, I think in books he just stayed with his Hirondel) ;)

That is not exactly a Volvo.:D

It has been an hour since my first post in this thread. While I was getting a shower, I kept thinking about my dad and his dreams of success and the yardstick he would measurer it by.

When I was about 5 months old (June 1956), Dad was crushed in a car crash, and pronounced dead at the scene, DOA and dead in surgery! Yet he only actually died two years ago. While he was in the hospital, from his bed he could see the most elegant apartment building in all of Columbus. It was 8 stories (about 200 units) with 3 two story penthouses on top. The penthouses each had a privet pool! Built in the 1920's it was in a Deco style. Dad made an inner vow to own that building some day!

Less that 10 years later he built his first apartment building of 4 units., then another and another, you get the idea.

In late 1979 that building came up for sale! Dad got a team of engineers and went to inspect the building. My older brother went along to give input and advice. The still externally beautiful building was now in the middle of a ghetto. Important infrastructure maintenance had been deferred, and the interior was crumbling! My brother could see dad begin to visibly slump! As they walked through, my brother started pointing out all the old lovely features, and saying thing like "This is wonderful" and "To think they did all this back in the 20's". The Engineers came to the conclusion the the cost to stabilize and upgrade the building would be double what it would cost to build a new one!

But dad didn't walk out with a shattered dream. He walked out knowing he. "Had Arrived!", for he no longer needed the building to prove to himself that he was successful.

Back to the car at hand:

If you watched The Saint, you knew Simon's car was HOT, who would I or anyone else be to dash your dreams. I have friends with kit cars of Porches 1955 Spiders, then they get the where with all to buy an original, and realize their 1/4 the price kit car has 50% more performance, than the real one.

If you have the money and are so inclined, buy this car! It will do for real, what Simon's car could do with trick photography.

And my sincere apologies for criticizing your dreams!

Ivan

I still watch "The Saint" sometimes on one of the old tv channels. Still pretty entertaining. Love the car.

Best Regards, Les

I got it all on DVD.:D;)

I was really young when I first watched it on TV(I was 12 when it ended:D). Always loved that car. At the begining I didn't even knew what car it was. But I loved it anyway. :D

Not exactly my dream you know. But an interesting, and probably lots of fun, car. This is not a real Volvo P1800 it is, and at the moment a one off, rendering by a race team(Cyan Racing) of one. The only thing P1800 on it is the looks.

No need for apologies necessary.;)

I could not afford that toy anyway.:D

Edit. My really dream car would be a Duesenberg.;)

It’s Shelby Blue. Sweden wouldn’t have a flag but for Carroll Shelby and men like him.

After enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps, Shelby began pilot training in November 1941. He graduated with the rank of staff sergeant pilot in September 1942 at Ellington Field. In December 1942 he was commissioned as a second lieutenant after undergoing air students' training, later serving as a flight instructor and test pilot in the Beechcraft AT-11 Kansan and Curtiss AT-9 Jeep. He went on to fly the Douglas B-18 Bolo, the North American B-25 Mitchell, the Douglas A-26 Invader and finally the Boeing B-29 Superfortress at Denver, Colorado, before being discharged following V-J Day.

Sweden was neutral in WWII. And the Sweedish flag is over 350 years old.

Sorry I meant Sweden, not Norway.

PS. Super cool car and video too.. I really appreciate you posting it.

I always liked the old Volvo 240 Sedan. I was really surprised when the stop making it. Most of the Volvo’s I see around here are the SUV’s.

In the mid sixties I worked in an area that had lots of car dealerships. I recall the sticker on a Volvo P1800 was $3800. Went into a Jaguar store and they had an XKE coupe on the floor. Sticker $6800. At the time that was more than I made in a year.

2,000lbs,400 horses,ice and snow,gotta love it!

1968 I was 12 and we were in Europe for a month. The last night there at my granny’s house I saw my first episode of The Saint.Nothing like it over here. It was a two part episode and I only got to see part one. I was bummed. A few months later, flipping through all 4 channels we had here, there was part two!!

It was a miracle [emoji23] I loved that show
