I just watched The Sisters Brothers. I loved it, though you may not.

It is on a limited release right now, so I had to hunt it down and watch it at a theater that didn't serve alcohol. They had reserved seats and recliners though, so it wasn't a completely savage experience.

Its a Western, directed by a Frenchman, starring the always great John C. Reilly and the sometimes great Joaquin Phoenix. I've loved John C. Reilly ever since he wanted to open a Burger Barn. (Glibert Grape fans will get that.) They play Eli and Charlie Sisters, and are brothers, hence the title.

Its a hard R, mostly for violence. Also, if you love horses and hate spiders you may want to give this one a pass.

The movie is set in 1851, but there must have been a big line at the gunstore because almost everyone has a '51 Navy. I'll forgive them that, as well as the brass frames. There are several scenes of characters cleaning guns, and quite a bit of cylinder swapping during the many shootouts.

The gunshots are LOUD, and the blackpowder makes smoke. The gunfights are chaotic, confusing, and realistic. Some happen at night, which looks cool.

I hunted it down because I'm not sure it will get a wide release and I wanted to see it on a big screen. The movie looks great.

Standard movie thread caveats apply, and I stipulate to the following: No good movies have been made since Big Jake, you'll wait for it to be free, Hollyweird is full of libtards, and you accidentally watched it and want 2 hours and 15 minutes of your life back.

I have to look for that. I read the book back when it came out; it’s a bit of a local celebrity here since a large part of it is set in Oregon and the author lives here. I somehow missed that it had been made into a movie.

I enjoyed the book, it reminded me of True Grit (the book) due to its snappy dialogue. I was aways a fan of True Grit (the movie) so I might give this a watching. Being that I'm a a proud Oregon boy, the setting doesn't offend me.
