Who thinks she wont be confirmed? Just a show and gives the politicans a crack at publicity. The thing that I dont like is her statements, (rumored to be at least 7 different occasions) that her being latino gives her better insight on "judgeing". Now, just what and how should anyones race influnance your decision on interpiting consitutional law? That fact alone is scary to me!

An extended kabuki dance to give the politicians on both sides political cover for allowing this disastrous addition to the Supreme Court.

I don't give a damn about her race. The fact that she's been overturned by the SC five or six times should be reason enough to realize she isn't the person for the job.

Looks to me like a done deal. There are 7 democrats senators on the committe of 12..so she wins there.

There are 60 democrats (including Al Franken and the independents, etc) on the floor to vote so she wins there.

Listened to the start of her confirmation hearings this morning, got dis-heartened and turned it off.

Yes, it is a way for the politicians to smile, say things, and get in the public eye. However, the way that they work is in the back rooms, no TV, no dialogue, no debate, no remarks for the public, and I firmly believe that she is already on the way to the SC.

Just my $.02

If they were still being used the term "rubber stamp" would be in play.
Today, begins the formality of having the 60 senate vote bar code installed.
The only thing that could keep her out of the gig at this point, would be her trying to get more "face time" than the bags of methane on the judiciary committee.

Though not directly related to the 2nd Amendment, we'll allow this for awhile.
Keep it cool and clean.
Thanks.

thanks Lee, thsi woman has me worried, that many anti 2A people in one spot can't be good, I am sitting back and going, well here we go, but hopefully someone decides this is a very bad idea and stands up for their american birthright and tells her so

We agree she is not qualified. Question is, does meaningful opposition exist where it's needed? I think not. She will replace Souter. Joe

I disagree she is not qualified. I absolutely think she is qualified. I don't especially like her views but the tradition has been to give the president wide leeway in whom he chooses. Absent some kind of criminal history or something she will be confirmed. I doubt she will be worse than Souter. Judges have an odd way of turning out differently from what they appear at nomination.

I really hope you are right, my concern with her is that she might turn out to be an activist judge who thinks she can write laws and overturn the Constitution

She'll probably have less opportunity to do that on the Supreme Court than she has on the Appeals court. Now she has to sway 8 other judges, and they hear comparatively fewer cases.
I don't doubt she's a liberal and an activist. Did anyone think Obama would appoint anything other than that?

that's the problem, her on the courts, obama in office, and clinton in the cabinet, not to mention all the democrats in the right places, this just screams trouble

Who cares? The thing we are most concerned about here is our 2nd Amendment rights and she changes nothing. Sotomayor is replacing anti gunner Souter so nothing changes there. Compared to the other justices, especially Roberts and Alito, she's a lightweight who isn't going to be influencing anybody else on the Court. Opposing her paints you as anti woman and anti latino. And she's a slam dunk by the numbers.

Let it go and fight another day.

Bob

People were screaming that Obama would sign an executive order for confiscation on Jan 21. But a funny thing happened: nothing. Power tends to create counter-balance and we're seeing that now. Gun control legislation has been effectively shut down. And his other proposals since the porkulus package aren't faring much better.
I see one term and totally ineffective after mid term elections.

I pray that my Rabbi is correct!
Having history unfold as he just described it, would feel like a wet dream after the last 8 or 9 months? My fear is that this herd are more lucky than they are "good". And the saying goes, "it doesn't matter whether your lucky or your good, when you win".

Look, I know we are supposed to refrain from any political jabber but I have to say that her conformation is just another dagger in the back of the American people. A drill sergeant once said, "American's would rather die on their feet, than live on their knees."

My question: Is that still the truth in this country? It is for me, what about you?

It breaks my heart everytime I turn on the news and see how much damage can be done in a few months. How will we look in 4 years???
