Audie Murphy In THE TEXICAN

Look at the Colt that Murphy is firing here. What is that thing on the top, like maybe an adjustable rear sight?

Has anyone seen the 1966 movie? Is it in color, and is it good?

Certainly looks like an elevated rear sight. Since the movie was shot in Spain that may be all the prop people could come up with.

Could it be a Colt New Frontier SA. They came out around '62. But also a good bet at a prop gun I guess.
Here's some other pics from the movie:

Seems like someone here on the Forum owns (or used to own) a Colt New Frontier SA that used to be the property of Audie Murphy.
(Maybe it was just a plain fixed sighted model,,I don't recall exactly now.)

You are killing me! I belive its 50/50 that it was this exact colt new frontier 5 1/2" .45 colt I used to own! Here is the story. I have posted it here maybe a dozzen times before.:
Audy ordered a consecitively # erd matched pair in 1965. They were delivered to wolfram leather company in monrovia california. They were serial #s 5355NF (mine) and 5356NF. He willed them to his two sons.
OT: Did you know he had something to do with getting greatwestern company going along with Hy Hunter the founder?
After he died one son sold #5356NF to george garton who wrote the book "Post war colt single actions". The other son just took his to a pawn shop in reseda california. He didnt tell them just who he was in regards to that being his famous dads gun! They put it out and I bought it for the going value at the time! ($250s).
I shot it a few times. Then I bought the book. Checked my number, (could have been up or down). I called the publisher and got gartons phone #. Called garton, and he said he owned the mate and wanted to buy mine, I wouldnt sell. I got a colt letter confirming both guns were shipped together. In the book garton said the featured gun was owned by a gentilman who wished to be unamed. (Him). He had his notorised by the son, and got a colt letter that it also was shipped as a matched pair to wolfram leather company.
I was single when I bought the gun and found this out I made it a safe queen. I got married and hit the gun show circut selling guns with my wife raiseing money for down payment on a house. I never meant to sell that gun! She got in a affair with her now husband. He was the goffer who set up shows for a big gun show promoter back then. She and my then 6 year daughter ran off with him and many guns of mine! (That colt amoungst them). Long story short, I couldnt even say the guns were hot as the divorice wasnt final when I reported them stolen! By the time the divorice was final, I didnt press charges as I didnt want to hurt our daughter, plus she denys stealing the guns to this day even though only her and I had the safe combo. The guns paid for the business they own today! This all has been since 2 weeks before christmass 1985. Meaning it was like right exactly now!! December has always been a unhappy month for me. I in the last 40+ years unbeliveably have buried 4 ex girl friends in december! 3 years ago, december 13 th, was the day I had my nose removed due to cancer. Bah! Humbug!

That was a fascinating account. What a pity that Murphy's sons didn't keep the guns.
