The Trolls

So the Crypt Keeper and I today took a detour into Dix Park at NC State University today to see 3 of the 100 trolls made by a Dutch artist and placed all over the world, When we get to RI, there are 5 more to hunt down. They are made out of recycled materials, sticks and old pallets. Really very cool. These are some of the smaller ones

They are probably safe since they are not riding horses.

If they were on horses, people would decide that they were Confederate generals, and destroy them.

You think that's not possible? They vadalized a statue of Jeanne d'Arc in New Orleans. Apparently they decided that anybody on on a horse, with a sword, in a southern city, must be a Confederate memorial.

Danish artist Thomas Dambo creates large-scale, recycled wood troll sculptures, primarily located in Denmark, throughout Scandinavia, and at various "troll hunts" in the USA, Belgium, and beyond. The most famous, permanent collection is the "Trail of a Thousand Trolls". [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Locations of Thomas Dambo Trolls:

• Denmark (The Home Base): There are roughly 30+ trolls in Denmark, largely concentrated around the Copenhagen area, with others scattered across Jutland.
• Belgium: Seven (7) trolls, known as the "Magical Tower" project, are located at De Schorre in Boom.
• USA: Trolls have been installed in various states, including:
• • Washington State: Six "Northwest Trolls" in Seattle, Ballard, Bainbridge Island, Issaquah, Vashon Island, and Portland, OR.

I saw the ones in Charlestown, RI in 2024. I didn't realize they were still there. For some reason I thought they were a temporary installation. I would throw up pictures but my kids are in all of the ones I took. When you're done you can grab yourself some unusual candy and maybe a drum at the Umbrella Factory.

I think if I saw one of those back in my 20s it would've totally. freaked me out! Those are just too cool. Maybe a buzz-kill, but really cool.
Yeah, I'm sure they would scare the heck outta me! My Natasha would love those! She's into that kind of stuff. When she was in grade school and I had her for the weekend we'd stay up Saturdays and watch the Crypt Keeper present movies to us. We had a ton of horror movies on VHS tapes when nothing was on. My Angel would be afraid of them.

Boothbay, ME botanical gardens feature five Giant Forest Trolls (Roskva, Lilja, Birk, Soren and Gro). Thomas Dambo is considered the world’s leading recycled-materials artist, famous for his troll sculptures. Dambo began this work in 2014 and has since created dozens of trolls now living in parks, green spaces, and woods around the world.
