The TSW rail

I have seen in a few threads concerns over the balance pistol changing if the rail is removed. So I weighed one that I removed. Its .30oz, so now we all know what it weighs. Here's a picture of one on the scale.

Thank you for documenting that. I've taken that idiotic bolt on rail off every TSW I've purchased that had one.

Never changed the balance on any of them. It DID make finding leather easier. Regards 18DAI

Rails are a waste of manufacturing effort to me. I imagine the numbers of guns made with rails vs the numbers of guns actually having a light installed is very disportionate.

It was a shame that the marketing types felt the need to tattoo the slide and hang a tinker toy on these pistols. I do think this line is the pinnacle of the 3rd gens , but that should be another thread.

I have a couple TSW's and I am considering taking off the useless & worthless rail.
First, what is the best way to remove?
Second, after it's removed, what about the holes? Are there plugs to fill the holes or leave the holes open?

I have removed 2 rails on stainless pistols , all I did was remove the slide and drill out the large portion of the aluminum rivet . Then take a small punch and from the inside tap them out. The holes don't bother me as much as the tinker toy. Here's a picture you decide for your self.

Leave the holes. Tell everyone it's designed by Navy SEALs to let the water run out.

I like em. Can throw on a light at night and dont have to start turning lights on at night if someone breaks in, or stumble around in the dark.

Oh and the best part...when they spend 99% of the time in a holster who sees it?

I dont get why call it TACTICOOL just cause it doesn't look like it was made in 1901. Tacticool would be something for looks only and has absolutely no use....ever. on the other hand a rail alows the use of a light if/when the gun is doing night duty or during a powe outage

Nice gun. Didn't balance quite as we'll as I hoped. The alloy and the stainless. Always felt lik it wanted to nose dive. Got a 4586 instead, but no rail

If the pistol was NIB I might think twice about removing the rail . Being 62 my penchant for collecting guns and keeping them pristine has diminished greatly, now I just hope to ware a few of them out before I'm worn out . You are so right on selling a gun , once I have it there is no such thing as sell .

While the rail may not be for everyone its DOES allow the attachment of a tac light.

As anyone who has ever cleared a drug store with a broken window in Watts at 3 in the morning can tell you, meaning myself, having a attached weapon light is a HUGE plus.

My issued Sig P229R has a light on it and I wouldn't go to work without the light. My bedside Glock 22 also has a light on it.

None of my 3rd gens have lights on them.

I think, to some extent, they serve a different purpose for me.

My 220st has a rail as does my PX4, XD9,PO1 and my Glocks, all of those rails are part of there frames not a separate piece held on by rivets. So I think I'm good with rail guns , FWIW my surefire is on the PX4, It's light and holds 17rds and so far reliable as a 92fs.
