The Ultimate Model 27 Thread!

I've really loved this thread. I'm surprised, however, at how few 27-3s show up. Most of you seem to have 27-2s. I'm the proud owner of a 27-3, perhaps my favorite revolver. It's strictly a shooter, has a little wear on it, but I love it.

I have been lucky enough to find two 27's in the last month Here they are:

My 1973 model with a 6" barrel.

My 1976 model with a 5" barrel.

In the last 2 months I picked up a 27-3 Nickle 6" and this week a 27-2 Blue in 3 1/2" I was content, happy until Boykinlp threw out that 5". I guess I'd better deal with the 27 addiction and find one. Dang Boykinlp that 5" is beautiful. Tired of it yet? :-)

You know how much we all like our 357Magnums.

Quote from the factory letter on this one.

3.5" 357 Magnum S758** shipped July 25 1950 and delivered to Frank Budge Co. Miami Fl. Records indicate " shipped with a 3.5" barrel ,blue finish ,checkered walnut grips .
The 1950 catalog describes the hammer as follows; Swedged spur deeply checkered and notched for thumb tip clearance, shortened hammer fall weight and timed for uniform ignition".
This is what is referred to as a high hammer spur. In the 1950s the factory offered what they refer to as the low hammer spur which dipped the position of the hammer spur."

A 4" Registered Magnum that shipped with a 6" barrel, blue ,and walnut Magnas with Call gold bead front sight.

A lot has happened to this one in the 74 years since it shipped to the Illinois State Police on
April 10 1936. The Magnas are gone,as is the Call gold bead. The barrel was cut down to 4". Buffed and bright nickeled ,and humiliated with a set of Plastic stags. Hammer and trigger modified to target configuration ,and checkered.
It will be gently restored throughout this coming year.

all 11 of the N frames in the front of this picture are N frame 357s. 10 have checkered topstraps.

Cuz,
Did you shoot a hole in the wall?

27-2 in 3.5" Yep them there handles is Goodyears, not dark exotic wood. I'm thinking custom wood. I picked it up last Wednesday and yet haven't come to grips with the Issue. :)

The 27-3 Nickle 6" was my first one. It built the fire for those to follow.

Nice find NA225! My born on date is in '66 too. I'd love to find a 27 from that year. Closest I've come is my 27-2 6.5" from 1967.

Today I picked up my second S&W revolver (first being a Model 25 that I picked up this past winter) - this time I got a Model 27 "no dash" with serial number S1919XX. Set me back $730, but I'd say it's well worth it...

Damn that is a deep blue... ;)

Better pics to come - these are from the sales posting:
