The Ultimate Shield Holster

Member enthusiastic about a gun product... other members poo poo on him for being enthusiastic and not doing things their way.

Sheesh...

Those snaps are "Pull The Dot" snaps. They are designed to operate a very specific way... watch this video from another holster maker on how to operate them, etc.

For an OWB holster this looks a little top heavy. Like it would ride way above your belt line, and there is no retention system at all. No trigger guard lock, not even a thumb strap. For an OWB holster this makes it very easy for people to take your weapon from you.

From the picture alone it looks like just 2 pieces of formed plastic with a bunch of rivets in it.

I always thought the whole idea of the Shield being so slender was it was designed to be used IWB and concealed as much as possible. I use a hybrid IWB holster I bought at a gun show by a craftsman who cut it exactly the way it would work best for me. Not everyone gets this chance to get a holster made for them, but there has to be better choices then this thing.

I am also not excited about the all Kydex holsters. But to each their own. ;)

Those are super easy to make. Just warm a piece of Kydex in your oven at 325 degrees for a few minutes, lay it over your gun and press down on it with some foam. Kydex is about $4 a sheet, and you can use any foam really. I bought the professional foam from the same place I get Kydex. I also buy rivets, screws, clips, everything from one place.

If you are seriously thinking of getting another, I urge you to try making it instead. It really is super easy.

Here's a Hidden Hybrid that I received a few days ago. It's extremely comfortable as an IWB or an OWB and only cost $65.00 shipped. I ordered it on June 3rd and received it on June 8th.

My 160lb brother EDC's a G19 in one of these Raven holsters OWB with an Ares Gear Ranger Belt. Any holster is only as good as the belt its attached too and when wearing any holster OWB the belt is especially important.

Secondary retention doesn't stop someone from taking your weapon. And the Raven's primary retention is VERY positive. Additionally there is no difference between IWB and OWB and your or someone eles's ability to take your weapon. Not sure why you would make that argument. The same amount of gun is exposed in both scenarios.

I wore my Raven/Shield IWB today and I didn't even notice it was there. Just as comfortable as my CompTac Minotaur.

It just looks like molded and riveted kydex with some snap loops. I priced one for the shield and it was $80 on their site. Is kydex that expensive?

Not really. If you made one yourself, you could do it for a couple bucks. If you made a lot of them and bought material in bulk, you could do it for even less. I know this because I researched into making them myself , although I decided against it. It's the reason everyone with a garage is making kydex holsters now a days, huge profit margin.

I'm not knocking the kydex holsters as I'm sure they fit nice and tight to the body (especially for OWB) so I do get it, I'm just more of an all leather IWB/OWB user.
