The 'unofficial' 58 Club

There's a SWEET custom Model 58 on another site for sale right now... 3" round butted. Jack Abene custom. Supposedly his personal carry piece for a while which he supposedly made for himself. Has "Jack's Guns" stamped under the grips on the frame.

Makes me really want to make moves to start building a 58 3" custom jobber.

Gah I really need a 58 in my life.

Instead of altering a already made gun, why not buy the one in your post?
Steve

$$$

Ideally I would get into a well carried shooter grade piece on the cheap if I was to do a snubby round butt conversion. I don't really have the resources to get into a custom collector piece, unfortunately. Wish I did, because the one I'm watching is incredible.

There's a guy here with a 58 project gun for sale I've been trying to get to come up off the frame and cylinder but understandably he doesn't want to split up the components. His is a 44 conversion.

Well considering what a shooter grade model 58 then the custom pistolsmith work would charge how much would you figure you'd spend on something like this? My guess is pretty expensive no matter how you slice it? And ruin a collector handgun to boot? My opinion of course.

Ruin? Quite the strong opinion!

I would never molest an S-prefix like that. The N prefix would be the one for the custom work.

I'd imagine I would have less in the custom snubby than I would have in a LNIB S prefix. Not like it matters what's spent.

58, 581 bucket list

The last two S&Ws on my wife and mine's bucket list are a 581 and a 58. we've already got a 586 and a 57. And more.

I bought the 57 about eight years ago for $500. I saw it while working in a town 50 miles from home. It was immaculate, not unfired but close to it. I quit working, drove to my bank, got cash, drove 50 miles back to the pawn shop, and plopped over the cash.

I ordered .41 brass online the same day. The town I where I bought the gun had a three-day waiting limit (stupid jerk local mayor) so I ended up reloading .41 ammo before I took possession of the gun.

We are well-to-do now, so we can buy pretty much anything we want. It's weird having money, after being lower middle class for so long. I don't even have to hand load anymore. Just weird.

Just a few of our collection.

I was headed out on my ATV a couple of weeks ago and was going to do some shooting with my 58.

I was probably going to kill some rocks or something.

And then my ATV developed a problem so I never made it. :(

Got the ATV fixed yesterday, its supposed to snow today so one day next week I'll attempt it again. :D

My latest 58 was wearing a set of KB magnas when I stumbled across a set of original 58 grips for sale here on the forum. It turns out the seller was only a couple hours away and the gun now looks like it did the day it left the factory. I;ll save the KB grips for another N frame.

I lost a pretty brutal bidding war on a SUPER nice SFPD Model 58 today. I sure hope it was one of you too stubborn to let me win! I had been looking for one for 3 years and this is the only one I've ever seen for sale. It even had a Tgrip on it with original diamond PC magnas :( I suspect it may be a first year gun.

Still in the market... hopefully I find another one and hopefully it doesn't take 3 more years!

I need a hug

Rubi, if you'd done things proper, you would have shot the ATV with the 58 just like a horse with a broken leg. Oats or petrol, it was still failed transportation.

Many, many years ago I worked night shift patrol at my PD. It was summertime and I had the car windows open. I heard a gunshot. I soon located the source; there a broken-down car on US 11 and a man standing next to it. As I rolled up, I recognized the man as being a fellow police officer. His car had broken down, so he got out and shot it.

He was a strange bird indeed!

...I was going to ask if he had been drinking, but if you are a "strange bird" you don't have to be drinking to do strange and stupid things...

Saw that custom 58 referred to above...really a nice looking gun... There is also still a Mag-Na-Port Custom on GB but the guy just wants stupid money for it...been for sale for several years...

Have not seen a lot of 58s for sale lately....one LNIB one went for well up into the teens....glad I have my two...

Gil,

I have had days like that.....some cars/trucks just get you hackles up over and over until you have to just do something

There is another notorious car shooter among us, but he shot a Bronco in the line of duty :D

Since auction has ended, can you share specifics of the sale; price, condition, pics, etc?
E-hug to ya...;)
