The 'unofficial' 58 Club

I saw that SFPD Model 58 and I knew it was going to go for significant money. I also wonder what it ended up at ?

The SFPD gun went for 1325 plus 25 shipping. I personally valued the gun at 1300-1500 but wanted to stand firm with my low end valuation. My final bid was 1300. Kinda made me sick to let it go. My consolation prize to myself was a very nice 1972 Model 51 kit gun in its original box with original grips today that I found locally at a very nice price :)

Gun was at 835 for the last day or so of the auction. Thought I was going to get a killer deal on it because there was no action the last day. Little did I know that was the calm before the storm, and there was at least one other person just as interested as me.

At the 15 minute warning, I put in a high bid at 900 to start the final stretch bidding and was instantly outbid by the current high bidder's autobid. It was now at 905. I instantly put in a second high bid at 1000 and was the current high bidder for a very short time, until I was outbid by the eventual winner, who was a new bidder trying to scoop it up at the end just like me. He bid very soon after I became high bidder at 1000 and was then new current high bidder at 1025. We traded bids for a while there.

I bid it all the way to 1300 before I threw in the towel. I would be very interested to know exactly how high his maximum bid was. I thought about one last bid just for kicks, but decided that if I wasn't willing to go to 1400 then it would be silly to go to 1350. After bidding it up 400 and this guy wasn't waivering, I didn't want to overpay so I bailed.

That is a really nice example. The Tyler T probably adds $50 to the cost.

There are more model 58's out there....keep you eyes open....I have been really luck a few times and bought some really neat ones.

You will find yours :D

Not to hijack but since I'm not familiar with SFPD M58's and without the serial number listed, approximately what year is that 58?

My guess would be 1964-66, but I'm not an expert and serial number was never disclosed to me by the seller. He didn't have access to the gun until after the auction ended at the time I got in touch with him.

IMO there is a high probability it is a first-year gun. The guy got a good deal at 1325 IMO, I just had no intention of spending more than 1300 on it.

Jack,

Without the serial number, it is just a guessing game.

If the stocks are matching, then it is before 1968 and after the introduction of the 41 Magnum in 1964.

I have no reason except a hunch to believe it couldn't possibly be a 1967 or 1968. It very well could be anywhere between 64 and 68.

I sure hope I find one just like it some day. It's an absolutely stellar example with nice honest wear, just like I prefer on my revolvers (I shoot all my guns).

For now it's the one that got away.

Here's mine...unfired for now

Got this one a few years back. Supposedly unfired outside of the three factory test shots. The front of the cylinder looks like this is the case. I need to give this one a try! Waiting on a new holster for all of my 4" N-Frames.

Jack,

YES it does! Welcome :)

I have never seen that brand of ammo, but 1400 FPS makes me feel all warm & fuzzy :D

been shootin that sfpd since 1972 and its starting to show some wear. so i got my third one a couple months ago. fixed sight n frame just fits me really good. bought a model 13 recently, but the fit ain't the same. i've been thinking about a 4" heavy duty now.

That's a great group you have there. I too bought a 4" HD, and then a 4" 44HE 3rd model AKA Wolf & Klar, and Model 520.....and this list goes on. A 4" fixed sight N frame does wonders for a certain segment of the populous. I do love it in 41 Magnum...the 44 Special is a very close 2nd :D I have had a couple of model 13's and they just don't compare to the N frame
