Does this make me an official member of the unofficial M58 club?
Baby got new shoes and T-grip thanks to Pete and Russ.
No agency/dept. markings but retired Okla Highway Patrol trooper bought new in 1969 time frame.

Ammo came with gun. Haven't heard of this brand but oughta get job done.
Crowding my shots and started stringing vertically. Standing offhand DA.

I have never seen that brand of ammo, but 1400 FPS makes me feel all warm & fuzzy

That is a VERY nice find!
The Kieth Brown stocks look right at home. Maybe he will make a set of pre-war PC for me

That's a great group you have there. I too bought a 4" HD, and then a 4" 44HE 3rd model AKA Wolf & Klar, and Model 520.....and this list goes on. A 4" fixed sight N frame does wonders for a certain segment of the populous. I do love it in 41 Magnum...the 44 Special is a very close 2nd
I have had a couple of model 13's and they just don't compare to the N frame

38-44s...what nice guns... Bought a birth year 1952 4" a few years ago as I had never even handled one before...so smooth.. Have been close a couple of times to sending it to Jack Huntington to turn it into a .41 Special but just like it as is with real .38-44 loads...as in +P+... Don't know who had it before me but they didn't shoot it at all...
Came close to buying a 1952 5" yesterday that had the original gold boxbox...$899 plus $65 shipping. Seller got his one bid. If it had not sold I was going to make him an offer of $850 delivered but he got is money...and it was VERY clean...

An elusive 651 snubbie has garnered my attention moreso than a Model 58 lately. These are pretty much my last 2 acquisitions for the foreseable future and I'll consider my collection "complete" but we all know that's probably BS, lol

Had a couple of the 651s and one 650...and thinking about it...isn't a 650 just a miniature stainless 58???

If I recall correctly, the model 650 was 22 Mag, 3 inch heavy barrel only, with fixed sights. They did not last long in production and were not really popular sellers. I would love to have one

Another officer in my department, now deceased, stopped an oncoming pick up truck with one shot from a 4" nickel M29. Took out the lower radiator and the pulley. He couldn't carry a blued handgun, as something in his skin made blued guns rust.
Took mine out for a spin today and fired the old, tired PPC qual course with it and 210 grain LSWCs at 800-900 fps. What a blast! I never passed a 94, but seldom did other than with 38 LWCs.

I've always been fascinated with the model 58 and 41 mag. Just seems like a great combo. I've only held and shot a M58 once and that was at a gun range about 20 yrs ago that a very nice guy let me shoot a few rounds through. It made an impression to say the least. Pricing is ridiculous on them now and ammo is non existent. It's a shame.
What would one expect to pay for a nice S-series model 58 with diamond target grips that the original owner claims came on the gun when new?
Somewhere in this thread I've posted these pictures before but here they are again.
Here's my M-58. I acquired it 3 years ago for just under $400.
All of this was included in the purchase price.
So I bought 500 new casings.
And a close friend loaded 400 rounds for me. I have two of these.
And I bought 250 new rounds from LAX prior to when the price of ammo skyrocketed.
Then for Christmas last year my friend loaded another 100 rounds for me.
So I ended up with about 750 rounds of .41 Magnum.
Here's the first six rounds I ever shot with my M58. This was from 100 ft.
I have no idea where the first one went.
So for now its waiting for its next trip to the range.

Mac - The early 58's with the S prefix have been bringing 800-1000 for just the gun. I don't think that the stocks came with the gun from the factory, but maybe a dealer installed them at the time of purchase???
Anyhow - the diamond targets, in good to excellent shape, will likely bring $250 all by them selves. The correct diamond magna stocks are hard to come by and sell for $150 and up in good condition.
If the gun is nickel (and original) then you can add 1-200 to the purchase price.

I paid $699 nib at my LGS in nickel. When he had the $699 sale. It's the first S&W I ever shot. What a well balanced revolvers. It had the narrow grips even though they fit my hand I got the s&w combat grips on it. If your not into N frames you should be at least the 41 magnum.

I Picked up my S serial 58 with original grips and minimal wear for 850 at the beginning of the year and that was even in CA. I think I may have gotten a little luck since the seller didn't even mention the grips or serial range in the ad. If the grips are original to the gun they should have the serial number stamped into the back side of one of the panels.
I have exactly that gun with original box, diamond walnut targets, target hammer, target trigger. I had it lettered; it did NOT come from the factory that way, but in southern California a couple of S&W distributors 'dressed up' M58s this way. Mine was $850 4 or 5 years ago, but I got it from an older friend and didn't try to negotiate.

In between the years 1982 - 1993 , my Mod. 58 served as my Tavern Protector/Defender. ( Billboard Bar 1979 thru 1993)
Being the owner and operator I could have open carried it in Pa. But I chose to keep it stashed in a good go to place . So it has sentimental value. Now it is one of the loaded house Guns.
I have used it on Exotic Game hunts. I needed a finishing shot on a Ram after a long shot with a TC/Contender. Final Medicine came from that 58 on a Wild Boar (also 1st shot from that Contender).

I couldn't remember if I had joined up in the past so I went through the thread. This thread must be ONE of the oldest and longest of this forum so it took me a while. It was worth it though. Thank you SAFireman for starting it long ago. I took a couple quick snap shots of the one I have now which I bought several years ago to replace the 58 I bought new in the '70's. Money was back then so I sold it. This one is in the N233 range and came with box et. al. My 58 from yesteryear was a great shooting gun and had every thing you needed in a serious social situation. I never carried it. I had my 66-1 and M-38 for that.

I been using the 2400 powder in my magnum loads. The 296 is too hot and can cause flame cutting in the throat I read here. I loaded some leadcast in new starline brass using unique powder. I need to work up a load for 210gr jhp.

I was a member of the "41 Mag" club before I joined the "58" club. I found this one S260XXX at a local LGS for $200 a few years ago. It had a lot of holster wear but didn't look like it had been shot much. I didn't buy it when I first saw it, had to think about it for a week. When I went back I found that he had re-Blued it. AAURGH! and it had a pair up ugly-Pacs on it. I figured it was still worth $200 for a good "Carry in the woods" when I went walking gun. I replaced the Pacs with this set of stocks I had in the drawer, I had picked them up at a yard sale for $10.
Since Starline started making 41 Special brass that is what I shoot the most.
