The Volquartsen extractor for the 41 is the real deal.

I bought a gently used 1972 S&W 41 this Spring to use for Bullseye comps. I did some reading before buying and was a bit worried about extraction problems they're known for. At first the pistol ran pretty good but soon developed a pretty nasty extraction problem, stovepipe and total failures to extract. The pistol seemed to have been shot very little but if the previous owners took care of their stuff like I do it could have had more rounds that were apparent.

I finally installed a new Volquartsen Edge extractor and ran through 100 rounds of CCI SV ammo yesterday like it wasn't anything. I'm thrilled to have the issue resolved, malfunctions during a match get old.

nobody likes an alibi in a match and CCI standard vel is what i use to run in my A series mod.41 built same year 1972 I shot a lot of years with that 41 till i sold it recently for a new Walther GSP expert that runs on any standard vel ammo. Enjoy your A series 41 there great

How easy is this to install?
I've installed many of them on Rugers and my Model 41 could desperately use one. I didn't know they made one for it. I tried using my 41 one time at the bullseye league at the NRA range then went back to my Clark Custom Ruger MKII due to constant extraction issues. I'd love to try it again.

If you have a decent set of brass punches and a small brass hammer it takes about 10 minutes to install and is pretty easy.

Basically you remove the cross pin, tap the hammer block forward and the extractor drops out. I spent some time cleaning while I had it apart. I also blew a to of gun cleaner in the hole that houses the extractor plunger, mine didn't fall out like they show in the maintenance however the stroke of the plunger was a little gritty so I cleaned and oiled it, this may also help in extraction.

I use the Volquartsen extractors exclusively on my Rugers Mark II and III. A must addition to a competitive .22 pistol
