The Worst Drivers in America...

Austin drivers were morons back in 1982 when I first went up there to attend U.T. NOTHING in the past 35 years has happened there to change my mind one iota. I have found the less time I spend in Travis County in general, the better my disposition is.

Seems that for as long as I can remember, national statistics put the worst drivers in Boston, Ma. Somewhere in the #2 or 3 spot is Providence, RI.

I live pretty much right smack between both cities. Sure explains allot.

The very worst I've seen in the US were in Miami, Florida. I drive in Vegas a couple times a year, and I don't think they're as bad as Portland drivers. Seattle isn't as bad as Portland, either.

The worst, period, were in Cozumel, Mexico.

The best, and most courteous drivers I've seen were in some of the smaller towns on the dry side of Oregon and Washington, and in the more rural areas of most of the western states.

But let's face it, if everyone drove as well as we do, we'd all be just fine!

The DUMBEST drivers

Are found in Augusta, GA. Hands down, no contest. The drivers aren't bad, aren't reckless, they are just stupid. Tailgating, turn on green arrow, lane stripes are decorations, signage is for someone else to read. Left turn only, right turn only lanes and signs are suggestions.

This is based on the Georgia State statistics that show Augusta / Richmond County public schools are the least effective teaching institutions in the state. If you can't READ the signs, have no CLUE what the signs mean, how can texting, reading books, speeding, tailgating, non-use of turn signals be a problem?

The women drivers under 30 are accidents waiting to happen. If you don't expect anything from them, you won't be disappointed. An 18 year old high school senior was busted for driving 75 MPH in a 35 MPH construction zone. Her response, "I didn't know I was going too fast." That road has been a construction zone for 3 years.

When driving past an accident scene, 75% of the time one of the drivers is female under 30 and is usually the cause of the wreck. Two vehicles, drivers seated in vehicles, police doing an interview.

Having driven in Austin I have to agree, it is a take your life in your hands if you are on the road there. Not just reckless but wild, crazy and completely out of the blue decisions. Having just moved to Florida I have to say they are trying to take over that #1 position. 25 mph in a 40 zone, 70 mph in a residential zone. And flashing school zone lights mean hurry up, you're late for work, that kids got a backpack, should help break the fall!! Geez.
