Last week I posted that I had had a very good year collecting Austin PD Revolvers for my collection. Well, I spoke too soon.
I picked this up last Thursday morning from a fellow forum member. 38/44 Heavy Duty marked "Austin PD 66".
For being a duty weapon, one would expect some dings and scratches, however this revolver is in exception condition, except for a little cleaning still yet to be done.
What makes this Heavy Duty different from the rest, is something some old time APD officers have told me. I have been told that some individual officers had their HD's bored to .357. On the face of the cylinder, just under the serial number, someone has etched 357.
One last thing about this transaction. The seller told me that he felt I would appreciate this revolver more than he, and he was willing to part with it. He asked me to make him an offer, so to show that I was serious about owning this Smith, I made him a very good cash offer. Guys you know what our fellow forum member told me, that's too much money! So I agreed to pay his price, met with him in Luling (Caldwell County) and now call this revolver mine.
Enjoy
