Theory Becomes Reality

Only because the OP brought the whole issue up I can finally admit this is exactly how I lost most of my right thumb in 1976...

I feel this is the place to finally come out...
Even if half your thumb didn't? :D

Those finger cot things for those who don't know look like condoms but are about the size of a dime. They make great gag gifts.

I once left about five of them on the rug in the back seat area of a friend's car. He didn't find them for a few weeks. None of the girls he gave rides to wanted to date him. Thinking they were his size.

On a more related note. I have heard that you can train hunting dogs to relieve themselves before getting into the truck.

The method is to give the command then stick a damp match stick in the dogs rectum. The insertion makes them release their bowels and bladder.

The dog had no choice but to release as it had to turn around to see who was saying "hello"'in such a demanding way.

So is this manouver a righty-tightie, or lefty-loosey situation?

Pinky Finger Won't Work

I would recommend a pinky finger rather than a thumb.

We had a good discussion with the K9 guys about why the thumb is the correct digit for this procedure. If the dog is not secured by a lead to a choke collar, one must be ready to swirl the dog around violently and into something hard. And that must be done right now and correctly or you're going to get bit. By grabbing the leg with the off hand and the hip with the fingers of the strong hand with the thumb up the arse, most men can handle a 50 to 60 lb. dog. If you stick the pinky or any other finger up that arse you won't be able to grab enough dog to use your muscles and perform the swing and bang maneuver and you are sure to be bit.

I was prepared to swing, but in this case that didn't prove to be necessary. The white Pit Bull doing the biting was only interested in getting back to his female Pit Bull to check on her.

The pinky was for a cat, someone else asked about, not a pit bull or polar bear.

Big Cholla your a committed man or you should be.

A pit bull once grabbed my late wife's little Yorkie. I didn't know about the thumb in the rear deal. I just jumped on the pit and used both hands to pull its mouth open. I at the time I was in good shape and about 260# and I think the pit was shocked at being man handled. Little dog just laid limp for about 5 minutes. I thought he was dying. The he came out of it and was fine except for a couple puncture marks.

First, I completely believe your story and agree with you actions. Glad it all worked out good. Like yourself I was a LEO and worked all breeds of dog both drug detection and command dogs. I also have raised and trained Dobermans for years (my favorite breed)

The dog fight or command dog locked is a bad situation. I have doused them in water and used aggressive collar and choke chain tactics. All that matters is what you did worked. Al parties where lucky someone like you with your knowledge did something and it worked.

Wish be had more real "dog people"

All that is going through my mind rig now is that grammer school rhyme, "Little Jack Horner sat in a corner..."
